Re-Programming Keyless Remote DIY Guide

Hi Guys,

Today I have managed to uncover Nissan's little secret and programmed the extra Keyless entry remote myself in 2 minutes flat emoticon

Here is the full DIY Procedure:

For Most Nissan Vehicles

To reprogram (enter new ID) key fob (keyless remote controller) follow the steps mentioned HERE

For the T31 Models, please follow THESE steps instead.

For those of you who disconnected the key-in warning chime socket under the steering column, you will need to re-connect it for this procedure

Please note that ALL remotes need to be present at the time of re-coding, as this process will erase all previous codes and issue a new one.

Nissan Charge $20
Australian X-Trail Forum Charge $0 emoticon

Shout me a beer next time you see me. hehehehe

I would hate to imagine how much trial and error and hair-pulling that must've taken to work out!

Seriously though, I reckon you must've had some inside information on that one!

Re: Re-Programming Keyless Remote DIY Guide

The inside information which made think it is possible was as a result of my visit of yeterday to the dealership and luckily enough my key-in warning chime was disconnected and they couldn't do it emoticon

This made me "think" and "search" for a solution.

In the meantime use the information provided to you and save some money. emoticon

Re: Re-Programming Keyless Remote DIY Guide

Just wondering, I have two keys with remotes, one hasn't been programmed yet.

If I follow the suggested procedure and create a new code, will it then cancel my original key????

Re: Re-Programming Keyless Remote DIY Guide

Hi Nic,

This procedure is for programming the remote only (not the key)

If you want to re-program the spare remote you have, both remotes need to be with you inside the car when you do this, as a new code will be issued to both remotes.

If you leave one outside the car, it won't work and you gonna have to re-code it again.

Programming the key is a bit more complicated than that and it is done by the dealer using a gadget that plugs into the ECU. The key itself contains a chip that needs to be programmed.

Re: Re-Programming Keyless Remote DIY Guide

thanks Jalalski
this site is worth it's weight in gold
My remote went down so I went to a service center was quoted $66 to re progamme the remote
so I tried a battery first..... but no good
so went to another centre they checked the system all ok went through the whole reprogramming thing... still no go
so they said better book in car as there is something wrong.
so today l look up your site ...presto ...... as I had disabled the key-in -chime no wonder it didn't work!
my point is that the tech at this Major center didn't pick that up!
and now I can do it my self!
thanks again

Re: Re-Programming Keyless Remote DIY Guide

I once had to reset my Pulsar remote with an instruction sheet 'I found' and it worked fine. When I get the new EXy I will probably need to do the same thing again.
Will this method work equally well with both the genuine remotes and the alternative remotes from the likes of eBay ?
Has anyone purchased one from eBay and tried this set up procedure ?

Lance,

I can only confirm that it'll work with a genuine Nissan remote.

Not all of the ones sold on eBay are suited for the Australian xtrail, as the frequencies are different between one country and another.

Re: Re-Programming Keyless Remote DIY Guide

Hi folks,

Unfortunately mine only had 1 remote/key when I bought it, so im on the hunt for another now. Has anyone ever bought a non-genuine Nissan fob and got it working ok?

Cheers
Alan
