Old Warrior -- Salvaging My Games
Since Webquest has been shut down, I am trying to rescue my games by memory and ingenuity. I have repeated some of what I said in this regard under the topic "Webquest Shutdown / Carry on ?". But, here I intend to keep up-to-date what games I have salvaged. Also, players please report in to let me know your intentions. I may have some warriors "up for adoption" if certain players decide not to continue.
Anyone interested in trying to carry on let me know.
It may be that only a few of my games will be carried on this in way, if that many. I for sure want to continue with The War to End All Orcs. Other games I am interested in continuing (of the ones I GMed): OW Laboratory games, Old Warriors in the Old World, the Fate of Bilbo Baggins and ISLAND WARS; and, the name slips my mind just now, but the one with Jaraile, Attalus, Helion, and Vittor (I think that is the four warriors and now -- EDIT -- I think it was entitled "The New and Improved Heroic Adventures"). These all depend upon player interest in trying to continue. If there is enough demand for any particular game (even for one not mentioned above), I am willing to consider it.
Here is my message board link, where the latest advances in game salvaging may be found under "OW Current Games":
http://www.runboard.com/bwqwhqoldwarrior
I think that I will be able to run these games primarily in my message board with game maps showing in the turn text. The only things the players will need to do outside of the specific game forum will be to submit dice rolls using a dice rolling server and to refer to the original WHQ and character documentations offline.
Here is the link to the space I use to provide WHQ-related files for my players. There isn't much there at this time. I will add files as needed especially to help in any attempts at carrying on the games.

Here is the dice rolling server link that I intend to use for my games for now:
http://www.irony.com/mailroll.html
Here is a link to my first major attempt at saving a Webquest game (I think that game is ready to play now.):
http://com2.runboard.com/bwqwhqoldwarrior.f2
More games to follow as players show interest in continuing. In the mean time I will try to reproduce the data that I remember for the games before I forget it all. So other games may appear there as rather incomplete until I know who wants to play and who would rather "retire".
EDIT note: Only updated the game link here, since Runboard renamed topics a while ago with a more numeral-based system.

Re: Old Warrior -- Salvaging My Games
My word... this is... well, not what I expected at all. I go away for a week and WebQuest disappears! I'd laugh if it wasn't that a sizeable chunk of my time investment hadn't disappeared.
I'm really not sure about carrying on. I don't know if I have the heart to. I was in a LOT of games and I haven't made any records of the vast majority. I will have to think this through. But I would really regret losing the friends I have made.

Re: Old Warrior -- Salvaging My Games
Thecustodian,
I know what you mean about the shock and maybe not having the heart to go on. I was in about the same number of games as you I think, maybe just a little less activity. I am rather stubborn I guess. I hate to quit. I am determined to go on, taking as many brave warriors along with me who care to -- at least in my own games. I am willing to start a new one or two also, after I see how many of the old ones are actually salvaged.
I have had some rather sad endings in real life. One of the most recent was the closing down of my church that I had pastored for several months. Just when I was determined to make any sacrifice to keep it going, higher authorities closed it down. It was heart-rending.
Peter, if you do decide not to continue, please, if you don't mind, let me use you as a resource for your character documentations and rules questions from time to time.
But, I trust that my efforts so far on game #90 might be some little encouragement to you (link given in the first post above).

Re: Old Warrior -- Salvaging My Games
I had grown rather attached to several of my characters and had mad a lot of friends on the site.
I would definately like to get the stats of those characters so I could carry on playing them at home. I'd also like to keep a few of them alive on the internet too.
I know I didn't put much time into WHQ when compared to Thecustodian and Bruno but I did enjoy writing me few character classes and items (my new alehouse list with 66 events never got printed). I'd hate to see these things, and the brilliant works of others fade away completely. After all, GW encourage fan creations.
Long live WHQ!

Re: Old Warrior -- Salvaging My Games
Well I have been thinking about running a game on LiveJournal, setting up a new account for it. I would rather carry on going with some of those done in WebQuest, but this will depend on getting access to the files.
Then again, a purely email-based one might be easier.
It is hard to think really. We were spoilt!

Re: Old Warrior -- Salvaging My Games
I really think that my message board is a workable solution as I have set it up.
But, I decided to try (only made a start) to set up actual web pages on my own web space.... That is even more work.... AND, if I get very many players, or much activity with only a few players, I could run out of my allowable file transfer rate more quickly. Admittedly, that could still happen with the message board, since I will be linking to my web space, but I think it best for now to continue using my message board.
My message board:
http://com2.runboard.com/bwqwhqoldwarrior
The first game I have salvaged (ready to play as soon as the players come back from holiday):
http://com2.runboard.com/bwqwhqoldwarrior.fthewartoendallorcs
The Tavern (for warrior creation and storage, when not in games). Here I have also added links to the male avatars (used to be in Webquest) under sub-divisions (Any Mage, Elves, Dwarves, Halflings, Human/Fighters, and Knights). But, sadly, the avatars can only be viewed one at a time (until I do a lot of work to make them appear in pages -- either on my website or in the forum):

Re: Old Warrior -- Salvaging My Games
it sure would be great to salvage things... even just our stats and characters would help..
i had a feeling i saved some of mine on a disk somewhere, but will need a LONG time to try and find out..
I do have some avatars if you want OldWarrior. i got the zips before it went down
...easiest way for proper salvaging would be for someone who knows Bruno, to get a full dump of the site but that might be easier said than done
i miss bruno too.. it's like he vanished of the face of the dungeon...
