Books from your childhood!

Other than the usual Dr Xue's books one book I remember was called 'Hurry Up Slowpoke" about a mouse family and the kid mouse was always slow. I think they were a chinese mouse family. I just found a used copy on Amazon.com and the cover gave me childhood flashbacks. It was also published strangely enough the year I was born, 1961.

I also remember when My daddy would hand me a handfull of 'Little Golden Books' or whatever they were called in the 60's. And Gold they were as I still reember the thrill of getting those books. I also lovedd the feeling of ordering books in school from that neat little catolog you could choose from. Of course I always ordered deep literature like 'Clifford the Big red Dog', 'Peanuts Cookbook', 'How to make Paper airplanes', and various joke books and such of which my father enjoyed more than I did which was alot.

I also got 2 movies I remember from my childhood and they were very price frieendly. 'The Conqueror Worm' in which Vincent Price plays a with hunter in Salem. Good thing Sam did not live back then. The other is a zombie movie called 'Childdren Shouldn't Play with Dead things. I also got in the mail a video tape of Drive in Movie intermission commercials. And found that the semi annual Fall display of Nostalgia Gums from Adam (Clove, Beeman and Blackjack) snuck in on me.

I usually call Warner Lambert each Fall to see if they are releasing the gum each year but i did not this year and a little Mormon Skunk Cricket told me it was out. They have not done this in about 5 or 6 years so I had given up hope. Of course the places I have found it the Damn Yankee's have bought nearly all the Clove flavored gum already!!

The clove gum is all bought up here too. Damn Yankees, indeed! As far as favorite childhood books, mine was "The little Mermaid". Most undoubtedly preparation for future "Octopus Garden" lustings. Pass the hook, line and Ringo, please.

Have that same sort of early memory
with the golden books being brought
out of the highboy upper drawer by a willing
Grandfather for an afternoon's read.

Other favorite children's books though there are too many to name, include in part:
Babar
Eloise
The Colour Kittens
Jenny the Firecat
Raggety Ann and Blessed Belinda
Bobbsie Twins
Mother Goose
A Friend is Someone Who Likes You (and other Joan Walsh Anglung books)
and of course, Muntiny on the Bounty (thank-you dearest Auntie).

The entire Tarzan series, original bindings. All of Jules Verne. All of the Bronte sisters. Five Little Peppers and How They Grew. All of the Bobbsey Twins, orginal bindings. Penrod and Sam. Call of the Wild. White Fang. Black Beauty. The House of Usher. The Hound of the Baskervilles. Dracula. (very hard but left a life-long impression).

I had older brothers so Playboy ( before they showed 'the hair') was a childhood favorite.
