I am (of course that is because I wrote it). emoticon

FFDD is more than just a HDR tool, it also contains some darkroom like tools for development (easy non-clipping adjustments of brightness and contrast using layermasks), and a really nice black and white conversion tool.

Currently the workflow supports 16-bit RGB mode for development, and a final B&W conversion at the end. However I would be willing to update the tools to work in grayscale mode if their was an interest for this.

Here are some of my favorite B&W images developed with FFDD,

I'm on my way to Utah in a few hours, be back on Oct 10th, I will post a few new FFDD B&W images in the landscape forum when I return.

Pictures look great,

The example shown on your black and white conversion tool link is very interesting.
Wondering if your pictures posted on this forum were also very saturated in colors before the conversion? I tried this with fall colors and found the more saturated the better without overdoing it of course.

Cheers

Increasing saturation prior to B&W conversion can be helpfull as long as you do not clip in any of the color channels.

However, the two images I posted, as with most of my B&W work, start from a color digital negative that does not have much color to begin with (like mid-day shots).

A colour digital negative...is this a film based capture or a sensor capture?

They are all sensor based captures from digital cameras. The first is from a Canon 10D and the second is from a Canon 5D.

Digital negative is realy a bad term, but since Adobe branded the "DNG" file format (Digital NeGative), I have been using it also...
