Budget Time - Film Incentives
From ABC Online:
Budget promises film incentives, industry restructure
The federal Minister for Communication, IT and the Arts, Senator Helen Coonan, has announced what is described as a comprehensive package of measures for the film industry as part of the Budget.
The measures include rebates of 40 per cent for private investment in film, and 20 per cent for private investment in television productions.
The Australian Film Commission (AFC), Film Finance Commission (FFC) and Film Australia Ltd (FAL) will merge to form a new screen agency, called the Australian Screen Authority (ASA).
The new agency is to focus on production of documentaries, children's programs, new producers' work and Indigenous content - projects which may not attract sufficient private finance.
Support for international films made in Australia is to increase from a rebate of 12.5 per cent to a rebate of 15 per cent, and expenditure over $5 million on post production and digital effects will be eligible for the international producer tax rebate for the first time.
