HEY FOOTAGEHEAD!
I've been trying to use Motion to solve this editing challenge that I have. Initially Footagehead assisted me but I had no internet access and 2 weeks past- then my question simply dissolved into the ether and went unanswered! Argh! If Footagehead can finish answering my question I'd be very appreciative as I've been at this problem for a bit now. If anyone else can assist me please- I need any assistance I can get!
Below is my post....
SCARAMOUCHE SAYS…
I have a scene that has been shot locked-off.
The thing is there is a wire on a wall that I want to remove. I am considering exporting a "Sequence- jpeg" frame into Photoshop CS2 then clone stamping it out.
Now to my question...
How can I create a layer over the top of the original sequence and use the image as a matte over the top of the scene?
Is this something I can do in Motion or should I consider using FCP?
What will I have to consider for this?
Thank you for assisting me with this challenge.
I appreciate it.

Hi Scaramouche
this task would be easy to perform in Motion.
I suggest exporting the still frame from your FCP sequence in Photoshop format.
Import your Photoshop modified still image into Motion
and use anything from an image mask to a Photoshop generated alpha mask to matte it to your background vision inside Motion. For a complete answer please detail
the version of Motion and FCP you are using and the video format. And a little detail on exactly what you are trying to achieve...
Best Regards

SCARAMOUCHE SAYS…
The scene format is DV PAL 720 x 576.
It has been altered to ASPECT 2:35:1 using the Widescreen Matte Effect option.
In the scene I have two people sitting in a cafe having a conversation. Visually, everything is where it should be for the composition except there is a electrical wire (one from a light we used to light the scene) scrawled up a wall and it ruins the image but I know that somehow in Motion it's easily fixed- however- until now I've not really ventured into this territory- my skill set is still basic/intermediate (in-development) so if you could give me some detail as to how its done I'd be very appreciative.
I'm using Final Cut Pro 5.
I'm using Motion 2.
I have Photoshop CS 2.
Thanks very much.
ps- I haven't had internet access until now!

Re: HEY FOOTAGEHEAD!
Hi Scaramouche
you may want to work on this scene without the widescreen matte applied, then apply it afterwards.
This may make lining up the 2 layers easier.
BTW I am not ether dissolved. I am time challenged.
To get this resolved quickly please post a before (FCP) and an after (Photoshop) still so we can see exactly why this is causing you so much grief.
Best Regards
