Message "Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly"
Hi guys,I hope someone in Mac Land can help me? I'm having trouble with my Final Cut Pro. About a month ago I started getting the message "The Application Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly", now it happens everytime I start up! It will load up all my files then just as it gets to the last bit of loading up... it crashes, the final cut dissappears! and the quit message appears! So I cant work on anything anymore, I'm not happy! I took my MacBookPro into a repair center to fix overheating (for the Second time!) and told them about my issues with the FinalCut quitting. They said it could be the CPU or the actual program. I picked it up today, they replaced the "Board,Logic,2.0GHz, 256MB VRAM", so I hoped that that would cure my 'quit' problem. I tried to start up the FinalCut and after loading up about 95% it QUIT again! The MacBookPro and FinalCut have been very faithfull for 2 years now before all this QUITTING started. Is it the Mac or is it the FinalCut, and what can I do????? Thanks in advance. HELP!

Re: Message "Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly"
Hi ANDY540
it sounds like you need to remake your FCP preferences.
You do this by trashing the old ones. You will find them in
the main user (home) library of your laptop under Preferences. Trash the folder Final Cut Pro User Data. Then trash the item com.apple.finalcutpro.plist.
Then try launching FCP.
See how you go with this and let us know how it works out.
Here is the Apple knowledgebase document for these procedures:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1846
Hope this helps
Best Regards

Re: Message "Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly"
Tried this but didnt work! The site says the other method is to re-install FCP, but because I have an important project I'm working on, Im scared I will lose my years of work. Will re installing FCP delete all my work?

Re: Message "Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly"
Hi ANDY540
I would immediately archive your years of work onto another drive. Take the projects and the contents of your Final Cut Pro Documents folder and all other related material and copy it to an external drive.
Reinstalling FCP may delete your work when it overwrites the default location of your Final Cut Pro Documents folder.
And yes, reinstalling FCP is the next step to take in my opinion.
Best Regards

Re: Message "Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly"
Thanks Footagehead, I'm scared, but I'll give it a go when I get a chance. If I save the actual timeline project on a different harddrive, will it be saved as a timeline and when I tranfer it back to FCP will it still be the same as before the move? I'm worried that I wont be able to manipulate all the separate files on the timeline? Does that make sense?

Re: Message "Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly"
OK ANDY540
heres the main thing to remember - the project contains the sequence you need. Using your description YES it will be the same timeline project. To repeat ALL files in your sequence need to be copied as well. Thats all video, audio, graphics and music files. If you know where these are I suggest putting them all in a folder together. You will get media offline messages when you reopen this project. You will need to reconnect them to your sequence. Do not rename them. Your FCP sequence will reconnect them using the original filenames.
You invoke reconnect for a sequence by selecting it from the browser and right clicking to reconnect or using the reconnect command from the menu item.
There are 2 types of reconnect - Search and Local. You will need Local for this reconnect. Navigate to your copied collection folder with all your copied media in it and connect everything in the local path.
You will need to rerender your sequence after this.
Just make sure you have everything copied first. When in doubt copy everything - drive storage is cheap.
Good luck and keep us in the loop so we can help.
Best Regards

Re: Message "Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly"
Footagehead, Believe it or not its still playing up! I reloaded FCP as per website instructions and it still keeps crashing/message "quit unexpected". I just dont know what to do? Is there anywhere in Sydney that I could take my set up to see if an expert can work out this mess?
