Re: The first listen...
he was justifying the ****e packaging for the music.
The "effort" came in the band writing and playing the music.
but i disagree, as the music isn't upto mostly autumn usually high standards

Re: The first listen...

You spent £50 on 9 CDs and a DVD. For £50 I can get all of Bach's Cantatas, which come on 30+ CDs and have some very art work on the covers. So if you measure value for money by quantity and quality glossy paper, sorry but you've been ripped off by Robert Plant.
theproglord does not understand this entities argument, he thinks it is self defeating and facile. Of course grayebb does not measure value for money by quantity of discs and glossy paper. For the entity Meadows to say that he can get all Bachs Cantatas for £50 is very nice although the proglord thinks he is just trying to show off by letting us know he listens to Bach's cantatas when if he was a true progger he would know his progness lord wakeman can play everything bach has ever written blindfolded.
If the entity grayebb did judge solely value defined by price against music he would clearly buy blank CD-R's and blank glossy paper and print his own booklet and download the music from bittorrent. This represents the best value for money, but he doesnt he is a loyal supporter of many bands and types of music including Mostly Autumn on whom he has spent out much of his earthly currency in the past and received superior product to this. He is passing a comment on what has happened this time.
If the entity meadows extrapolates his value for money for only quality music and not caring about packaging argument to it's natural conclusion then he is effectively saying he would prefer to bittorent these albums as this would be the logical way for him to go about acquiring quality music at best value based on his own principles.
The proglord considers this unlikely as from reading the entity meadows posts he appears to be the kind of fanatical and slightly scary nutswinger some bands attract who would happily pay good money for a turd that was fished out of Heathers dressing room and would consider pirating their work and denying them of a reasonable 30 pounds for one album an offence worthy of slow death by hideous torture (by which the proglod does not in this case mean being made to listen repeatedly to this new album).....

When I gave MA my £30 for what I thought was going to be a professionally presented album, like the "Storms..." album was, and I eventually got a very ordinarily packaged CD in a jewel case, and a CD of music which I thought was, quite frankly, dreadful, then I feel like I've been ripped off.
That's understandable. If I hadn't liked the music I would have been unhappy too. Luckily I liked it, so I feel I have value for money.
I was disappointed by the music of Storms over Still Water, and no amount of pretty packaging made up for that. If I had said, "oh well, crap album but at least I got another nice picture of the band and a few words that I've already read in the magazine" then that frankly would have been mad!
At least with "Storms...", even if you weren't keen on the recorded content of the album, you could see that some effort had been put into presentation of the package as a whole.
If MA are trying to compete with other bands in their genre, then they've got to raise the game and present themselves as well as some of the others are. If they are going to ask for money for a product in advance, then they need to make sure that they are giving value for money in all aspects of the product. And before you say anything about this being more than just selling soap powder, then think again, because this is a business and leaving just one person unsatisfied with the product is not good practice as they will not buy again.

Steady Proglord. Maybe it's time to return to the Marillion forums.
