Re: The first listen...
Science and Machinery
It must be Chris Johnson singing again but it's not his "Silver Glass" voice, so he's quite versatile... nice harmonies, interesting structure (I would guess he wrote it too, as he seems to be writing the unusual stuff...) oh, bit of guitar at the end...
It's like a Pink Floyd song that doesn't sound like a Pink Floyd song
Look, I know what I mean, ok?

Re: The first listen...
Open Road
Ok, this is the one that didn't impress me at York because of the shocking sound mix...
It sounds much better on CD.
Not the greatest song on the disk(s), but a nice chorus, good tunes. Not sure the Bryan/Heather vocal is their best. Might need to grow on me, but currently seems a bit "ordinary".

Gaze
Heather with her "soft" voice again. It's a very delicate sort of song and
(At the moment, I'm rating this whole album above Storms and one of the main reasons is Heather singing instead of screaming.)
It's quite a sad song
But very pretty.

Re: The first listen...
Yellow Time
Flute and acoustic guitar, Heather singing... is this an Odin Dragonfly song?
(It's also the first song where the mix has let me pick out the backing vocal clearly enough to identify who it is.)
Oh yes, this is a nice song. Mellow And it's reminding me of something that I can't put my finger on... not the song itself but the vocal style... it's like somebody.... somebody that I really ought to be able to name... arrgh, this is really going to bug me now

Re: The first listen...
Broken Soldier
Another mellow one... actually, melancholic would be a better term.
Bryan singing this time. I think the backing vocal might be Chris - his voice really is pretty distinctive.
The guitar is stunning on this. I was just
about to write that about the central guitar break but now I'm at the end and the closing passage is even more so... oh, well, it's too short, I could have done with a few more minutes of that but...

Re: The first listen...
Further from Home
must stop making Pink Floyd comparisons, must stop making Pink Floyd comparisons. Umm, ok, so this is like Crazy Diamond... no, not really tunewise, but you can see the inspiration for the way the long guitar passage is built up over the keyboards...
Hold on, is this an instrumental? If it is, I think it's MA's best [non-flute-based] instrumental, ever...
About four minutes into it, the melodic guitar starts wailing at you... I wouold expect the tempo increase about now
Oh, it did
Oh, and it does have lyrics. That's a surprise! In fact... it's a Fading Colours reprise! (Isn't it?) Well, I didn't expect that! But it does it brilliantly.
Well. I am utterly dumbstruck by how good that was. Best song of the album, I think. Maybe.

Re: The first listen...
Bright Green
Hmm. A bit ordinary. No, that's unfair... it's nice... it's just an anticlimax after the previous song.
Ok, focus on positive things:
Nice galloping rhythm.
Country vocals (!)
Well... I don't hate it. It's just ordinary. (Ordinary by Mostly Autumn standards. It's just that they set a higher standard...)
