sonisphere
going to sonisphere with my son in a few weeks. he is a big metallica fan. and now coheed and cambria have been added he is well happy. infact he is happy with most of the line up. but is there anything for me? bearing in mind i,m a prog and 80's heavy metal man. obvioulsly there is heaven and hell, airbourne, thin lizzy and then i,m stuggling a bit. can anyboddy reccomend any other bands i should grab a listen of before i go?

Re: sonisphere
Hi flatters,
Don't want to pee on your chips, as it were, but don't be surprised if Thin Lizzy cancel. Apparently John Sykes has left the band, and I'd be surprised if they'd be able to get anyone in capable of doing guitar and vocals between now and then.
If you like early Rush, you'd probably enjoy Coheed & Cambria, though, and I'd certainly give Mastodon a try. maybe the vocals aren't to everyone's taste, but the musicianship is stunning. I've also read that Thunder have been added to the bill (replacing Lizzy perhaps?) and it will be one of their last ever gigs, so that will be well worth seeing.
