Old Appleton Wi. race track

Does anyone remember the name of the old race track that was in Appleton?
Where was it located?
I was told a few years ago that part of the surface was still showing. I want to Google map it and check it out.
Any info on this would be great.

It's a long winter....just killing time.

Re: Old Appleton Wi. race track

There was a track at what is now the South West corner of College and Linwood below the viaduct. Unfortunatly that is all gone. The old Apple Creek Speedway may be the one you are thinking of or the old Shiocton Speedway. The book "The History of the American Speedway" by Allan E. Brown is a very interesting book. It has more information on tracks that have come and gone. There are a couple other books too that have nice photos of lost tracks from then and now, unfortunaely I can't find them right now. There was a web site that had a ton of sattelite images of past and present track but I am not finding it. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply.
The track i'm looking for is Apple Creek Speedway.
I didn't even know about the track below the viaduct...or in that location.

If anyone has more info, please post.

The original 11-7. This car, a 1937 Chevrolet Coupe, was built for the 1957 stock car season by Lou Close (working on engine) and driver Les Petersen (in car). This picture was taken in the pits at the old Apple Creek Speedway outside Appleton, WI..

The original 11-7 met her end in a multi-car crash at the old Apple Creek Speedway near Appleton, WI in 1958. The JO car was driven by Joe Crass.

I also remember there was a big hole in the pit fence were i use to sneak into the pits before i was of legal age. they had a huge pile of cone top beer cans i use to pick through to find collector cans. boy am i getting old!

I talked to my uncle and he said that it is were the swimming pool is at Plalman(sp) park. He also said the there was one on Ballard Rd.
Between 41 and "OO"(now full of houses). I dont know if this is what you need. I will try to talk to him a little more to see if he knows anything else.
