Lisa Hannigan played a beguiling set at the Parish, grinding away on some kind of squeezebox with a smile so wide it looked like her face might split. She is obviously happy without Damien Rice. We first met Lisa as Rice's muse and angelic counterpoint singer but she is finding her own sweet space in the overcrowded singer-songwriter genre, with a lovely textured sound, beguiling voice, gently enticing songs and radiant manner. It is not widely known (and based on gossip and innuendo), but as far as I can figure it, Lisa is at the heart of one of the great love triangles of modern music. Damien Rice wrote an album (9 Crimes) at least partly inspired by breaking up with Lisa, who wrote an album (See Saw) about breaking up with Damien and falling in love with Gary Lightbody, who wrote an album (Snow Patrol's A Hundred Million Sons) about falling in love with Lisa. Now we just need them all to break up and get together with some other songwriters to keep the musical ball rolling.
