posticon Shaken Baby Syndrome ~ Learn the Facts

quote:

"It is estimated that there were nearly 1,500 reported cases of Shaken Baby Syndrome last year alone.

But, even more astonishing is that the number of cases appears to be growing at an alarming rate.

Are there really more children who suffer abuse by violent shaking or are there underlying illnesses or other possible explanations for the infant's injuries and/or death?"

Either the whole world has gone crazy and started shaking their babies to death, or we are misdiagnosing Shaken Baby Syndrome!

Retinal hemorrhages alone cannot be used to determine Shaken Baby Syndrome.

Read the Myths about SBS. Learn the Science of Shaken Baby Syndrome.
Yes, SBS is perpetrated on children, but imagine shaking a child hard enough to cause the blood vessels in their eyes to bleed.
If there are no other signs of abuse, such as finger bruises from holding the child while shaking, there are many other medical conditions that can cause SBS.

- Oxygen Dependency
- Anemia
- Birth
- CPR
- Cardiomyopathy
- Chronic Lung Disease
- Neonatal Respiratory Distress Syndrome
- Retinopathy

     to name a few causes.

This is the most informative web site I am aware of.

If you know of others, please add them to this thread.
