Charlie: a shelter pig with an impaction problem whose time was up

Charlie was one of several guinea pigs at a shelter when a plea went out to rescues, forums, and individuals for help. The shelter was overwhelmed by the guinea pigs and needed to have them rescued immediately. Charlie was picked up along with two other guinea pigs. The female in the group was immediately taken to a vet where she remained overnight while they removed a large stone. Charlie, who was extremely friendly, also had a problem. His problem was that he would get impacted and needed to be cleaned out regularly. At one point he got soft droppings which added to the “mess”. He was neutered to try to resolve the impaction problem. At first it looked as if there would be no improvement but it seems now that he might be getting better. Charlie is currently living by himself since he wasn’t interested in sharing his space with another male. He will be tried with a female to see if that works out as a living arrangement for him. Additional photos of Charlie are in his photo album and also on his website.

Charlie, a neutered male, is now living with another Himalayan. It was so strange to see them together ... it was hard to tell them apart! He and his female companion get lots of free-run time safely corralled in a pen in a home. The couple, who are in their 60's, love them both.
