Re: Permit Hearing

for you

Re: Permit Hearing
I live out of town or I would definately be there! In fact, I will still try my best to work it out and get a long long weekend off and head home right after the meeting Wednesday. Why don't you post the hearing on the FloramBama main/home page, it would get a lot more views that way.

Re: Permit Hearing
Pourman, Thanks for the heads-up! For those of us that can't make it to the hearing, is there some place we can call or email to voice our support for the Flora-Bama? I'd love to start an email chain to get the local government swamped with calls and emails in support. In my case, myself and at least 15 of my friends make at least two trips a year to Orange Beach and the Flora-bama. In fact, we haven't made less than two trips a year since 1991! If the permit committee had some hard numbers, like that each member of my crowd spends over $1,000 per trip in the local economy, then maybe they'd realize the economic benefit of the Flora-Bama. If the 'Bama ever closes, we won't be back. It would be like driving down a street where a good friend had died in a wreck, just too sad if the Florabama wasn't there. Orange Beach would just be another over developed stretch of beach with too many condos!

Re: Permit Hearing
Hopefully this is allowed to be posted.
October 2007
To Whom It May Concern:
The Flora-Bama is scheduled to appear before the Board of Adjustment of Escambia County on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at 8:30 a.m. This hearing is to request a variance to the county’s three foot freeboard requirement. This meeting will be held in the Old County Courthouse, 223 Palafox Place, Room 307, Pensacola, Florida.
In March of 2005, prior to the demolition of the main structure, the Flora-Bama submitted plans to rebuild the structure in “compliance with the current Florida Building Codes, Escambia County Ordinances and/ or Flood Plain, Construction Regulationsâ€. Accordingly, final plans were submitted in December of 2005. The difficulties of rebuilding in the post storm environment, as well as the complexity of the permitting process, extended us into a time frame (January 2006) where Escambia County made the decision to raise the elevation requirements.
Hurricane Ivan damaged the Flora-Bama in September of 2004. That was over three years ago! It is time to move on and rebuild! The Flora-Bama has been a major contributor to the area’s tourism industry, as well as one of the areas largest employers for several years and would like to once again continue that role.
We have always tried to be leaders in the community, now we need everyone’s help. We encourage you to use the contact information below to contact the local county commissioners regarding this matter as well as attend the meeting.
Sincerely,
The Owners & Staff of Flora-Bama Lounge

Re: Permit Hearing
Thanks Yooperbart and Pourman! I just fired off an email to about 20 people that frequent the Flora-Bama, asking them to email the commissioners. I copied both of your message board posts onto the email to bring everybody up to speed.
I also asked them to forward the email to anyone on their email contacts list that would be willing to send a note to the commissioners. Hopefully, the county will listen and finally grant the permits.
Any chance of getting a notice placed on the www.flora-bama web page? I'm sure there's more people visiting the web page than the message board.

Re: Permit Hearing
La2,
You are welcome. If I may disclose the person who sent me that info, it was Cheryl at the Flora-Bama in the e-mail that she sends out to those people who have chosen to receive e-mails from the Flora-Bama.
