Re: WHAT SHOULD CITY COUNCIL DO TO BETTER OUR CITY?
While new City Council members seems to be an answer, it only takes a short time before most all council members are swayed to the "other side."
As long as we have unelected leaders calling the shots around here, no matter who is on council, we're still gonna have the same problems we've had for many years.
As the cry, that has been made for some time now, proclaims, GET RID OF THE SOGP. They were given full monetary run of this town by an ordinance back in the mid-sixties. This ordinance needs to be over turned.
For those that are unaware, the more depressed this area is, the more people that are on welfare and/or unemployment, the more grant monies this group receives. They get paid to keep you down!!!!!
AND, until you have people willing to give it the leg work that is needed to make the ordinance disappear, the problem will continue to exist.

Moe is right. They should resign, but they have no honor.
The citizens must act by voting. Elect some persons who will not be influenced and controlled by a fistfull of Benjamin Franklins.
Right now we only have one man (Mollette) who is not on the take.

Re: WHAT SHOULD CITY COUNCIL DO TO BETTER OUR CITY?
Bob has never rolled over. Rich will never roll over. Austin will never and I mean never ROLL over. Here are two men that if added to the council they will give it their best. They have been fighting the good fight long before most of us even knew we were in a war.
DANNY pickup the sword and get in the fight. The 4th ward needs a real rep. that will stay awake if nothing else.

Gotta agree there DB, the fourth ward could use a person WANTING TO SEE CHANGE in this area. If I could vote for council persons, you would certainly get mine.......but you already knew that didn't you!!!

I'm all for rolling up my sleeves and getting the job done ... Problem? How in the hell do you go about stopping this gang? I don't know, but I'd sure stand behind, beside, or even in front of anyone who wants to be the brains!

Re: WHAT SHOULD CITY COUNCIL DO TO BETTER OUR CITY?
Obtain a copy of the original ordinance that was passed back in the mid-sixties giving the SOGP control over the monetary management of the city. They weren't called the SOGP back then and I don't remember what the exact name was, but it's in the ordinance. (Tim Loper has a "hard" copy of it) Also, the City Clerk, JoAnn Aeh, can provide you with a copy of it for a nominal fee.
THEN a referendum needs to be typed up, circulated among the citizens, then placed on the ballot.
A good place to start with this would probably be the Concerned Citizens Group. They would have a wealth of information for you as far as process, wording, basically....who, what, when of how to get this done.
Also, Lee Scott and Austin Leedom would be good sources of information as to the "how to" of getting this done.
I'm not really 'up' on the how-to part but I can type like crazy. Not that I would be all that excited about getting into this mess again but, if I don't help, how can I expect anyone else to get off their duff and do something?!
