Chinese comedy
This morning in California I watched a Chinese comedy on the CCTV channel.
It was hilarious. All slapstick about a small mountain village holding off and finally routing a Japanese army patrol. It was so funny and there is no way it could be taken in any political way.... simply funny. I was almost expecting Laurel and Hardy to pop out from behind a tree to add to the fun.
I do not know any of the actrs but I imagine they are well known and certainly at least two of them must be a comedy duo. there was a donkey who prevented a bridge from being blown up because he had a call of nature and doused the flare before it reached the dynamite. There was a bull on the loose, running after a soldier with a red blanket around his waist. (He had lost his trousers) There was even a very large pig running off with an officer on his back.
Mirela I don't know if you know about this film ,but I must say it made me laugh out loud..and that did me a lot of good.
Chinese people have a great sense of humour in the slapstick style.

Re: Chinese comedy
One more post re this film. It was on again last night and I watched the beginning which I had missed in the morning showing. I must say it is one of the funniest comedies and I loved it. I could easily watch it again.
I think I may be mistaken re the two opposing groups. They may both be Chinese but since I can't speak or really understand Mandarin I could not tell. the costumes were very similar for the soldiers so need a little enlightenment.
I do think that the civilians were probably a travelling theatrical group plus a few village people. also I think it was filmed on a part of the Great Wall that has not been renewed so it was pretty rugged.

Re: Chinese comedy
Hi Peg!
Sorry, I don't get CCTV, so I will need to do a bit of research to see what their TV lineup is.
Does anyone else have any idea on what this comedy is?

Re: Chinese comedy
Hi Merela,
thanks for your response. Well I think this was a fascinating drama. I still am not sure if it was from HK or Taiwan. The next episode showed the raggedy man cleaned up. His hair cut and tidy but his ears were like Mr Spocks ears. large and pointed. He is still wandering around looking for something. The only English words at any time were on the ending screen and they were ''MAGIC MODEL PHONE'. Don't know if this is title or advertising....
The programme channel is CCTV 4. I have found a page for this on web but cannot find anything about dramas.
I really love the Chinese humour in TV and film. It is almost understandable without subs. This last one however is a puzzle but still funny. I love the magic tricks and they can FLY !! without wings or planes.... I'd always had dreams about flying like that. Very joyful.

Re: Chinese comedy
After seeing bits and pieces of this drama over a few weeks I think it must be a version of 'THE MONKEY KING' It is magical and nonsensical but so funny and dramatic.
I have only seen some of it as it is now on very late at night.

Re: Chinese comedy
Hi Peg!
Sorry, I am still unable to pin point the drama using your description. The CCTV websites don't clearly provide a listing of their shows for their overseas channels. If anyone has that listing, please let me know.
I would recommend you watching the LA18 noon Chinese drama (How the Princess Got Married). I can provide episode synopsis of this drama if anyone else is interested in watching it.
