Your comments on Miae, har1102 were well said. I agree with you completely on your assessment of her. As for her behaving as she does because she "loves" and wants to "protect" her family, I've never agreed with that point of view, either. The result of her so-called protective actions has always been much more hurtful to her family than if she just had kept quiet from the beginning. But she does spice up the show, no doubt about it.

On Dan and Hyeonu - Yep, she bears some fault in hurting him, but not as much as if she went ahead and married the guy! Especially now that she is clear that she can never love him. Holy cow, what was Dan's knee-jerk reaction when Hyeonu tried to kiss her? She was repulsed and rather violently shoved him off. It's not the easiest thing to pretend, or act like you love someone when you don't. But it's rather impossible when you find that person repulsive. In the end, Dan is being kind to Hyeonu. Imagine how miserably jealous, crazy, and controlling Hyeonu would be married to a beautiful, vivacious woman he would always be longing after and trying to keep caged to keep her attentions all to himself. He thinks he's miserable now. He hasn't seen anything yet if he were to force her into marriage.

Then there is Dan's mother. Loved and hated her last night. It's just amazing to me how shallow and callous she is in trying to force her daughter into such a miserable marriage. (Misery likes company, I guess.) On the other hand, I enjoyed how Mom trotted over to Bonjour Manor, intent on putting the screws to both Granny and Sua. Now that Mom thinks Sua is having an affair with another man, I wonder what she will do? In the past when "shocking" things have happened with Sua, and I've expected Mom to deal with it, I've been very disappointed that she hasn't. Sua always acts all sweet, or cries, and Mom melts in her hand. Being gone overnight with another man is a cat of a different stripe, I'd think. But it is so serious that maybe Mom will be afraid to bring it up, especially to Seonjae or Dad. But I'm usually wrong in predicting Mom's behavior. I'll just have to wait and see what she does next...

Remember Fancy Pants in 'River'? He's one of the regulars on the panel for the Chit Chat show. He was talking to the girls in English the other day and he barely had an accent. I think his name is Kim Hyeok. I tried to find more info on him but there wasn't much so maybe I got the name wrong. I know he's also in Over The Rainbow..
I certainly do remember him! Didn't know he was on that Chit Chat show (I rarely watch it). Don't recall him being in Over the Rainbow, either. Guess I was too busy watching Hwanhee in that one! emoticon Though I bought the DVD set, I haven't opened it yet. I'll have to check out our Fancy Pants. Thanks for the heads up!)

"FAncy Pants" is also in "King and I" - the guy who is supposed to marry "Gukhwa". I can't find his name anywhere.

The Bonjour family (BK's mom and granny) lied to MIL about Sua's whereabouts-and as she was leaving, she sees Sua in ski clothes, getting out of a car driven by a man..what will MIL do? I hope she tells Jerk or lets granny know what she has witnessed-let's see the Old Bat wriggle out of this one...

BTW, what episode are we on tonight?

Re: K-Drama: 미우나 고우나 (Likable or Not)

In Jiyeongs family, we see the scale of human characteristics and how the different personalities approach situations. I don't find any of them (silent/hush/hush type, confrontive, etc) to be the ideal (as in real life) sometimes you have to be an "Auntie", sometimes a Miae, and most often like the father. The fact that Maie's approach appears to be destructive all the time,( as most claim) I don't feel is a fair assessment. On occassion, the outcome of her actions was a reflection of the depravity of heart of her "opponent".
Question: at what age or circumstance are the adult children "allowed" to express their views or opinions without the stigma of disrespect?
I am beginning to think that Seonjae had no intentions of staying married to Sua forever and was privately hoping that Jiyeoung would wait for him. Remember when he asked her to trust him and what he was doing?
Either way, he is one mixed up young man caught in the reality of Korean male expectations. Not something that is easy to turn your back on.

Although Seoul is notorious for its traffic jams, the only time our characters get stuck is when the story line calls for it. Otherwise it’s zip zip zip.

There’s always a parking space available directly in front of the building and door.
Pleiad:True, true emoticon …Another one is that I don’t see parking meters along the streets. I know they have meter maids( from watching “Here comes Ajumma”). But I've never seen anybody putting coins in any parking meters.

I do like Kang Baekho a lot. He is a very creative person. It seems he comes up with good ideas more than anybody else in that group. He can be a good planning manager. Watch out Seonjae!!

And, last night, Seonjae’s mother actually sort of “scolded” Granny for not sending Sua home soon, and not helping Sua to become more mature!!!! Yay! One big kudos to Mrs. Na!!! I love how the characters are written…One day I hate them, the next day I love them, and the next…… I just don’t give a damn!

I like this drama as much as I like "Pure in Heart", and "Bizarre Bunch", if not even more at this point!

Tonight should be #99. Anybody know how many episodes there are? I would guess about 145, like High Sky, but not sure.

Yeah, MIL seeing Sua coming out of another man's car...after being told by Granny that she was asleep at the house...should provide some interesting fireworks emoticon

I find it interesting how Miae's character can get such emotions out of everybody!! You either love her or hate her...I love her, despite her imperfections...and I do believe she is sincere about her family & protecting them, though in a blunt, firm manner & her "mother skills" are a bit lacking. However, when comparing Miae to Psycho doc, Sua, Jerk or Granny, it's NO contest...I'll take Miae anytime!!

I don't know how many days it takes them to shoot one episode, I am guessing they have about 20-30 more episodes to go. So that would mean 150-160 episodes in total.

Thanks for the update, merela

Wow...150-160 episodes emoticon Sounds like more than usual but I guess it's not that unusual.

Actually, it means about 60 more episodes in L.A.!! Not that bad it's just that I'm anxious to see how it all ends up:

-Danpung & Baekho and Jiyeong & Ujin together!! Miae, hopefully, with somebody...though, not sure it should be or will be Dalhyeon. And Granny, Jerk, Brat & psycho doc all get what's coming to them emoticon

But, I'm getting ahead of myself...a lot could still happen, between now & the end!!

K-Drama: 미우나 고우나 (Likable or Not)

Having driven on the streets of Seoul (2001-2004) I can tell you that the most fictional aspect of K-dramas is K-streets!!!. There is never any parking, the streets are always full, and motorcycles are everywhere and dangerous as heck. They do have some u-turn pulloffs but they are not anywhere nearly as common as they are in the dramas.

One neat thing is that the dramas rent intersting cars to film shots. I had a friend who had a Miata and he made good money renting it out to dramas for the first few years he had it. Also I've actually seen them filming on the street. They have the actor's car on a flat bed tow truck while they have cameras looking in through the front windshield. Sort of fun to see and very distracting! AND the traffic jams!!! I once came back late from the east coast Beach of Seokco and spent 7 hours making the last 30 miles into Seoul. The buses are filled and driven by maniacs, who you never never want to play dare devil with. Same for all big trucks.

Re: K-Drama: 미우나 고우나 (Likable or Not)

Miae's first reaction to nearly every situation is usually paranoid rambling followed by uncontrolled violence. I pity poor Chan if he had to deal constantly with the flights of a mother who is only partially "there" and may at any time take out her brand of punishment upon him. She is much like the bratty, self-centured "Mrs. Park" (from Pure in Heart); She's vain and impulsive with nary a sympathetic bone in her body for the plight of others. Sua is bratty, but I don't remember her ever physically attacking anyone. Sua is depraved because she has been deprived. Her upbringing is akin to that of "Snowcone" (also of PIH.) With no proper upbringing from the principal female house member, she is bereft of a moral compass. If one is raised by wolves, it is likely that one only learns to live like a wolf. Sua needs to be brought along by hands much more capable and nurturing than her present MIL (another one who likes to hit when she's frustrated) and her uncaring, gold-digging and emotionally unfaithful husband.

There are those who are blind to their own faults due to ignorance or lack of a proper education and there are those who are fully aware that their tactics are unsavory and don't care one whit about it. No need to go rooting for the bad guys here. They know who they are and will use every weapon in their arsenals to ensure that they come out ahead. emoticon
