K-Drama: 미우나 고우나 (Likable or Not)
Well obviously the writers are trying to make a moral point here, showing so many selfish characters.. I just have never seen so many of them having so much spotlight on them in any of the dramas I have seen so far, so I am thinking the writers must be having an agenda, such as show Korean audiences how bad all this new "riches" is for everybody concerned? I read a little bit about confucianism and it seems is focused on the harmony of society and moral obligations that need to come from the inside of a person. So basically we are witnessing the opposite of that in these characters (selfishness, disregard of society and family rules, creating chaos by upsetting codified class rules and habits). Surely this is not good for korean society as a whole. Do you think this is the message they are trying to send? As we know, drama as a genre has been a teaching vehicles since the time of Greek drama!

Re: K-Drama: 미우나 고우나 (Likable or Not)
Personally, I doubt the writers/producers are all that altruistic about their plots or a moral message. The name of the game is ratings = money. How often do programs with nice, moral people living their lives by the "golden rule" become big hits? Usually, the comments are that these people are boring and should "get a life." Would anything fascinate us about that, unless constant, upsetting obstacles are thrown in their paths?
Just as in American (or any other) entertainment, what's shocking and out of the ordinary (without going too far) is what usually gains the largest audience. We have to have outrageous characters (Miae, Sua, Granny, Seonjae, Hyeonu) who bully, fight, tell off others, cheat, hurt others who are innocent, and generally rub us the wrong way. Or they do to others what we'd like to do or say but cannot in our own lives. But eventually in daily drama, the bad guys pay their due, the good guys win out and everybody lives happily ever after.
The primary target audience in Korea is middle-aged to older women who have one foot in the past, traditional society and the other in the modern Sua/Dan-type culture of working women who aren't going to take all the abuse and oppression women had to endure for centuries. I think of lot of daily drama is based on exaggerated conflict between the old and the new—generations that basically clash and aren't easy to mesh together without major readjustments in thinking by both sides.

Re: K-Drama: 미우나 고우나 (Likable or Not)
nchristi, 대단히 감사합니다 for the blockquote tip. Life with Mi Ae would be a wild ride wouldn't it? Taking on Sua and her mother in law at the same time and leveling both of them -I loved the cheerful look on her face afterwards. I'm not sure Dal Hyeon really wants that much excitement anymore.
Remember the fortune teller said Sua and SeonJae will separate? Fortunetellers in KDramas are never wrong. If I had realized this when watching I am Sam I would have known the the ending was given away in episode 11 after the lead couple visit a fortuneteller. The fortune teller does not say Sua and SeonJae divorce. I have the strangest feeling they might reconcile after separating and wind up together after all, changed for the better and happy.
What happened to Hyeonu's glasses? Is ditching the glasses an effort to make him look more macho?
Things I am looking forward to seeing:
Baek Ho's mother blowing up at her husband/mother in law and storming out
The hissy fit sure to follow from Danpungs mother after she finds out her son in law will be Baek Ho
The next round between Baek Ho and Hyeonu where Baek Ho decides to fight back..

Re: K-Drama: 미우나 고우나 (Likable or Not)
-Interesting that Danpung is SOOO against rushing into marriage...albeit, with the psycho doc...while her parents are constantly fighting. Think there's a connection between the two? Ummm....
-I know that, eventually, Baekho & Danpung will wind up together but, right now, I don't have a clue as to how it will all end?? I see them, denying each other's feelings, to the point of "hating" each other...like Danpung scolding Baekho for saying that they can come up with a new plan, with so little time. I have to say that it's frustrating, to see how many different ways they can keep them apart, until the end. But I guess that's why I keep watching, LOL!!
-Sua charging into Jiyeong's work, like that I REALLY hope that Jiyeong gives that brat the same type of beating that her aunt gave Sua, LOL!! Unfortunately, judging by the previews, it doesn't like it'll happen but, even more disturbing (to me) is that Jiyeong seemed to think too much about seeing Seonjae again!! It would be a HUGE mistake for her to even think about him...despite the fact that he does seem to still like her a lot...after what the jerk did to her!!
--- Nam Sang-Mi...my favorite K-drama actress & a BEAUTIFUL woman!!
Chae Rim...my 2nd favorite K-drama actress & gorgeous!!

Re: K-Drama: 미우나 고우나 (Likable or Not)
Writers are always looking for new twists and turns for their dramas. It wouldn't surprise me if they get Seonjae and Jiyeong back together somehow. The fact that he's already been married to Sua seems a big problem, but we see Seonjae and Jiyeong still in love with each other. Jiyeong is plenty hurt and angry, but underneath it all doesn't it seem she still loves him? It certainly would be a new ending—a twist that seems unacceptable. But there's always a first time in K-drama!
On the other hand, I can see that never being possible. Hopefully Jiyeong will develop real feelings for Ujin. He's a great guy, good ethics, hard worker, and he loves Jiyeong a lot.
As for Seonjae and Sua, I can also see them patching things up and working it all out. I must say that Seonjae, while still having the hots for Jiyeong, puts on an excellent act of loving Sua. Maybe some people can do that easily, or maybe he has genuine affection for Sua.
Dan - She's a lost cause at present. Acting so happy in trying to "love" Hyeonu. Venting her frustrations on Baekho because she doesn't want to love him—but already does. I hope she's not walking down the aisle when her brain finally wakes up.

K-Drama: 미우나 고우나 (Likable or Not)
I wonder who will die in this drama. That is really all that interests me. Jerk ending it all would be an odd twist.
