KBS GLOBAL
Entertainment News
January 03, 2008

Image class blockquote The KBS daily drama series 'Likable or Not' starring Han Ji-hye and Kim Ji-seok has reached 40% in ratings.

In a TNS Media Korea and AGB Nielsen Media survey, the ratings topped 40%, the highest yet in a self-commissioned poll and the highest among programs on all channels in the same time slot.

The drama centers on families involving remarriage in an aim to underline familial value.

Kim's confessed love toward Han and actor Jo Dong-hyuk's betrayal of his long-time love over a rich girl keep viewers tuned in every day while veteran cast members help create a balanced drama.

K-Drama: 미우나 고우나 (Likable or Not)

Hey I am back visiting the site. I got to see the last few eps after a long hiatus and really, I have to say that the creepy characters are even more hateful than before and the bumblers are still bumblers!1 However I must admit that it got more interesting because there is more happening. But boy, the writers must have a really pessimistic view of the world, with their collection of social climbers, obsessive psychos (Hyeonu), and passive characters (Baekho's mom). I guess they are trying a pure in heart line with Jiyeong. Funny to see her in that role after her con artist role in Full House

Italiansoul - I must agree. Typically someone or maybe several people will somehow be redeemed - just like Eun-ju in Heaven/Earth. But I just don't see how the writers can redeem a character like Sua or Hyeonu.

Even Sua's witchy grandmother (who sometimes seems a bit soft but still is hard as steel) often talks about how specially she raised her and she should not have to do certain things because she is special and spoiled. How do you change a character like that who 'buys' her husband. Sometimes she seems so sickly sweet - but it is all still to get what she wants and thought she might not have.

Psycho Plastic Surgeon is just as bad. Who does he think he is dictatinig Dan's every move. She needs to be as decisive in her personal life as she seems to be at work.

I just don't see how any extra episodes (regardless of how long the show is) will improve these characters. Sometimes i think the writers need to end a show with us knowing that often you 'reap what you sow.'

I guess we can't blame the creepy 'doctor' for acting so obssessive of Danpung - she allows him to be so! If she is not interested in him, or if she don't feel love for him, she better tell him off. I wouldn't let anybody yell at my friend, let alone somebody who helped me. And the way he apologized to her was like ...@#@##!!!! makes me real mad!

I will try hard to find time to watch tonite! I wouldn't want to miss tonite's episode especially seeing that scene where Songjae told Jiyeong he doesn't want her to see Baekho! and that she should do as he say! What a big A @#@#*&* E!!!!

Looks like it's taking a while before they show the owner of the dog - which we all know would be the new guy in Jiyeong's heart.

Yes, italiansoul! Jiyeong was a different character in Full House!

I don't find the character of Hyeonu that objectionable. This is how most Korean men might behave towards the woman they want to marry. The powers that be chose this actor because he is not as good looking as the other two young male leads so the audience would favor Baekho.

Beakho has become more likable, but his mouth contortions still bothers me. The writers have developed his character from a self-centered, inconsiderate person into a more caring and likable person. However, they never really showed how this turnabout came about.

Baekho is getting better as the show progresses, but his mouth still bothers me. Again, the writers have made him develop from a self-centered person to one who is more considerate

I agree with the recent posts...Danpung is "allowing" the psycho doctor to stay in her life. I was really hoping that last night's outburst would be the last straw but I guess not.

I see NO redeeming qualities in Sua or her Grandma, to a lesser extent, and don't really want to like them...unlike Eun-ju from "Heaven/Sky" like you said, jessikat.

I hope Jiyeong doesn't allow seeing Seonjae & Sua together to "set her back" & doesn't let that spoiled brat get away with tossing a drink in her face & not do anything!! Great point, viyra, about the owner of that stray dog becoming the new man in Jiyeong's life!! Never thought that but, hopefully, he'll be a good guy!!

Re: K-Drama: 미우나 고우나 (Likable or Not)

On Hyeonu, I have to agree with Pali. He is very typical of macho and possessive men in most Asian cultures—and probably 2/3 of cultures around the world.

Dan's behavior, too, is typical of submissive, non-assertive females in these cultures who follow their cultural norm (traditional, not contemporary) to first look at a man's standing and ability to provide for a family. Then they determine if they can "like" him or not.

Why else would she continue on with Hyeonu since she wasn't at all interested in him from the beginning? He did so many things for her that she began to feel obligated to him. Plus, he satisfied her parents' requirements and was rather pleasant—most of the time. However, now Dan's feelings for Baekho are beginning to crowd out Hyeonu. His anger and domination of her isn't helping his case, either. But the quickest way for Hyeonu to drive Dan directly into Baekho's arms is to keep picking on him, making Dan defend Baekho. She will increasingly view him as the good guy/victim and Hyeonu as the bully/bad guy.

I totally agree that Sua still has some very ugly behavior going on, but she's in love and it seems to be slowly softening her up. This is the first time she's been deeply in love and in every relationship one person loves more than the other. The person who loves least, is always in control—though Sua hasn't yet got it that Seonjae will control her more than she'll ever control him. So far, his ambitions are paralleling what she wants—which makes her think she is maneuvering him at her will. But when there's a split in vision, Sua is going to learn a hard lesson that Seonjae is the one in control. Her lifelong tactic of cute, pouty ways will not work then.

But people of any age can grow and change. Hope springs eternal! That's what I like about these family K-dramas. There's a lot of injustice in this world and we all suffer from it to varying degrees. The dramas give us hope for resolution and usually end with the triumph of Good over Bad, with family ties being strengthened and unified.

Why in the world do these men and women, who take each others boyfriends, girlfriends etc., go and meet each other at coffee shops? If there was a women who took my boyfriend of 10 years away from me, I sure as hell would not waste my time meeting with them.

Sua thinks that she's gods gift to men. She is more than a spoiled brat, she is a b*****........and her grandmother is no better.

These women who get burned this way need to kick some butt and ask questions later.

Re: K-Drama: 미우나 고우나 (Likable or Not)

GREAT show tonight!!

-Seonjae's father tells his wife that he spoke with Mansu and that Seonjae will not live with his in-laws. Danpung is that her dad is the best!! Seonjae & his dad have a major fight, in front of the family, and admits that he's marrying Sua for position & money...causing Danpung to say how marrying for love is the most important thing & that she's disappointed in him but Seonjae is stubborn & says it's his life.

-Baekho & Jiyeong have coffee with Dallae & Miae and Miae brings up how much they are hanging out together & how inappropiate (sp?) it is. Baekho leaves on the bus but sees Jiyeong walking towards Seonjae & can't be she's meeting, "that jerk"!! He calls her on the cell but Jiyeong tells him that she'll talk to him later & asks what Seonjae wants. He tells her not to see Baekho any more because he's Sua's brother and he doesn't want to meet them like they did at the shopping mall. Jiyeong tells him that he has no business telling her who to see & walks away, saying that they never meet again emoticon Can't say how proud I was of Jiyeong at that moment!! You go, girl emoticon

-Sua was MORE of a whiny, spoiled, bratty b**** tonight emoticon Couldn't believe it!! She confronts Baekho after he gets home and asks why he's seeing Jiyeong & what kind of relationship they have. She tells Baekho to, "stop seeing her, if you're my brother"!! Baekho tells her to just worry about Seonjae & to tell him to stop calling Jiyeong!! Mansu comes home & tells the family that Seonjae will not be moving in and that Sua should move in with Seonjae's family!! He also says how embarrassed he was, to find out that Seonjae's dad won't allow him to move in with them but that he agrees. Sua throws a baby tantrum & storms off, saying how unfair it is & how she doesn't want to live there!!

-Jiyeong gets a call from the brat & meets her at a cafe, instead of having her come to the clinic. Sua tells Jiyeong, "do you still want my man?" emoticon Jiyeong says that she doesn't ever want to talk to or see either one of them and how insecure must Sua be to even ask that emoticon AWESOME comeback by Jiyeong but that brat throws a drink in Jiyeong's face & leaves!! I SOOO wanted Jiyeong to go after that brat & do to her what Miae did before, LOL!! But Jiyeong has too much class to fall down to Sua's level and stays in her seat, calling Seonjae and telling him that she never wants to deal with either Sua or him ever!! We then see somebody offer her a handkerchif (sp?) but she says it's alright. The man says it's ok & that it's clean. She accepts it...and I get the feeling that he will be the new man in Jiyeong's life!!

-Baekho gets a call from Hyeonu at the office, telling him to meet outside. Hyeonu tells Baekho that he thinks Baekho looks at Danpung as more than a co-worker but, if not, he will apologize for his outburst the other day. Baekho says he doesn't have to apologize and that he likes Danpung emoticon Hyeonu punches him in the face, knocking him down emoticon

What a great show & can't wait for next week!! Just when I thought I had seen it all from Sua, she surprises me...I have NEVER seen a more whiny, spoiled brat or a more distasteful character in ALL of the K-dramas I have seen!! Even if she does a complete turnaround...and have to say that I hope it doesn't happen because I like HATING her...I don't think I can like her!! I LOVED how Jiyeong told Seonjae & Sua off emoticon And I hope Baekho stands up to that psycho doctor next week!!

Re: K-Drama: 미우나 고우나 (Likable or Not)

Well, Seonjae calmly told his family where he's at with this marriage and revealed a little of himself in so doing. Yep, he's out to inherit Bonjour Foods, but will treat Sua well, even learning to "love" her eventually.

He certainly has thought this through and made a conscious decision. He told his father to leave him alone about his marriage, that he has paid a heavy price—and continues to pay—for his choice. Well, he's right about that. But the day will come when he rues this decision, I fear.

When Seonjae meets Jiyeong and tells her to stay away from Baekho, she throws it in his face and walks off. Interestingly, as she walks away, he hurls at her, "Do what I say!"

The Stranger. Wow. Finally a regular, non-weird or juvenile MAN. emoticon However, Jiyeong doesn't know who he is because she never looked at him! She's got his handkerchief, but no face to associate with the owner. I'm presuming this café is in Jiyeong's neighborhood, so their paths will cross again. He already looks like he's more than enough to stand against Seonjae!
