Yes, she's still here and going strong. However, I believe she dropped out of watching this one.

K-Drama: 미우나 고우나 (Likable or Not)

Thanks for answering my questions about the stuffed animal/car and about the status of vets in Korea. I didn't realize that Jiyeong and Seonjae were a couple for ten years--and she's just meeting his mother now? That would be very unrealistic in American dating culture, unless they lived in different countries.

Palja was the late arrival character in Pure in Heart. After the silly singer uncle got dumped by Eomji (who chose his elderly father), she showed up for him. In Wide as the Sky etc., Jimin showed up as a boyfriend for Eunha, who was passed over for Jisu. Both of these characters showed up about episode 100 or so.

I am wondering about the vet with the bow tie.I think he might become more prominent like Ms. Jealousy did in High Wide etc. He might be a good choice for Jieyong.

K-Drama: 미우나 고우나 (Likable or Not)

This post contains major spoilers through Episode 80. Our spoiler baseline in SoCal is at Episode 54 (tonight). DeAngelo, I have sent you a PM since you are a new member. Welcome to our forum, by the way. —nchristi

class reveal Image class spoiler sonjae and sua are married. baeko and DanPung are getting along very well and baeko just confessed his love for her after several company outings together. there several moments where the two sort of create, inadvertently, some heated moments. on a couple of occasions that idiot boyfriend of Danpung, "the nerdy & pesky doctor" runs into the baeko and danpung during these awkward moments. the doc suspects something between Baeko and his "supposed" girlfriend Danpung. This little doctor idiot really annoys me, by the way. He's trying to impose himself on danpung, just by doing little things for her like buying her dinner, gradually elevating the size and worth of the gifts he is buying her. This little manipulator is trying to make her feel obligated to date and eventually accept his proposal. I don't know what episode you guys are on but I am on episode #80. And little by little, through subtle hints, suggestions and gifts, this little jerk (the doc) has pretty much "weaseled" his way into Danpung's life and totally manipulated her into trying to accept marriage. Now he has the parents involved and without Danpung's consent have come up with an engagement date, to which Danpung has shown some resistance. But her parents are so involved and domineering over her life, she is getting a lot of parental pressure to marry this guy. and trust me, she isn't in love with this doctor idiot. I think she has it for Baeko but with Sua and Sonjae getting married they are practically family, so it becomes a semi-taboo situation for Danpung and Baeko to get anything going. But who knows, with Sua and Sonjae's marriage already off to a rocky start. Sonjae had to cut his honeymoon short after just one day because of work related issues at his new job working for his new father in law. That's right he is with Bonjour now and is the third man, only behind Sua's dad (King hauncho himself) and just one other guy!! After a serious attitude display from Sua for Sonjae having to leave the honeymoon, she forgives him but now she is moved into her new family living with Sonjae's family for one year. She is so clueless! This will end in divorce. Than maybe, Baeko and Danpung can hook up!!!! But that's about where it is right now at episode #80. It ended with Baeko drunk after having a few drinks with Danpung and the other co-workers in his dept. Than as they are leaving, he grabs Danpung (after others left already) and tells her "don't marry him, don't leave to States with him (the doc)" and that he loves her! Obviously Danpung is shocked by this confession. The next episode should be pretty good. Things are getting interesting. And there is some rumor that, Baeko is actually the biological son of the President of Bonjour, his supposed step father. that maybe, his mom and his step dad got it on when they were dating all those years ago and indeed, Baeko is the real son.

Re: K-Drama: 미우나 고우나 (Likable or Not)

So, it looks like Sonya & Dalhyeon are getting fond of each other...despite fighting the feeling. Miae seems to feel geninuely bad about taking & spending the money from Seonjae's mom. Jiyeong's dad finds out & goes crazy after Miae, while she begs for forgiveness. Looked like Jiyeong was going to take off the ring that Seonjae gave her, but then she stops...UGH!! Baekho & Danpung have to do a photo shoot, as newlyweds, for work because one of the other female co-workers came down with a rash after a facial. Hyeonu shows up at Danpung's job, one day before he was expected & is told that she's at a photo shoot. Have to say that the photo shoot was fun to watch, as Baekho & Danpung decided to just have fun...for the work...and really looked great together!! Hyeonu shows up & sees them together. The look on his face was priceless. When Danpung gets back to the office, she's told that Hyeonu is back & went to see her. She checks her cellphone & there are a ton of missed calls from Hyeonu. What a psycho emoticon Jiyeong's dad takes a loan out...at the risk of losing his property if he misses a payment...& meets with Seonjae to give the rest of the money back. Wonder what Seonjae will do, when he finds out that his mom tried to pay off Jiyeong to get her out of his life?? I'm really digging this drama right now!!

Actually it was Sonjae who broke up with Jiyeong so his mother didn't really have to bother paying her off (in actuality, the money, I believe, was for her to get an abortion if she was pregnant). Sonjae didn't know about his mother's nasty doings - but who cares, it's for his own good.

Yes, you are correct. There is a huge cultural difference between Western and traditional Korean society when it comes to socializing with others outside their immediate family. People who date do not meet each others' parents (or other members of their family, either) until they have decided to marry each other. When the parents meet, both sides have already agreed to have their children marry each other. It is like a formal contract. The two families have an official dinner together. The next step will be setting the wedding date and making the arrangements.

Remember when Dan accidentally came across her brother one day when he was with Jiyeong? Dan had no idea who Jiyeong was (though SJ & JY had been an item for 10 years already. But she knew it was more than friends, getting the drift Jiyeong was actually Seonjae's girlfriend. Having a "girlfriend" or "dating" is not recreation like it is here. In Korean society, they date someone only when they have decided to see if marriage will work for them.

I think the basic reason for parents and in-laws to not socialize much stems from the old ways. When a woman married, she nearly cut all ties with her own bio-family and became a member of her husband's family. In a lot of the K-dramas it is considered very bad form for a bride to go back home too often for the first couple of years. She has to have a good reason and get her MIL's permission to go visit. The idea behind this was to wean the bride from her family so that she would bond with her husband's family and belong there. This is just the opposite from the American way where it is probably more common that a wife remains close with her own mother, while the husband's mother is less involved.

Tonight's episode (54) was cute. I cracked up when the other office girl came in with the hives all over her face. Baekho's expression was priceless when he realized Dan would be taking the other girl's place! The "newlywed" poses they did were really cute. Too bad Hyeonu was lurking in the background, getting all worked up. I'm sure he will come up with some skullduggerous things to ruin the fun.

Good point, viyra!! Kind of forgot about that but, still, with his feelings for Jiyeong not TOTALLY gone, I wonder if he'll lash out at his mom for the "bribe"?

NChristi, that would be way too much of a stereotype and over generalization on your part to suggest that Jiyeong and Sonjae's relationship is the norm. I know plenty of koreans whose shared their relationship status to their parents and other members of the family. I don't know of a single korean dating nowadays who would date for 10 years without their family members knowing of the "girlfriend or boyfriend." That is a ridiculous assumption and stereotype. Maybe way back in the 40's and 50's this might have been the case but no way in today's day and age, this is true. If you are watching the show, even within the show there are comments about how "it's not a novelty for today's korean dating scene, people get together and break up all the time." Even "grandma" expresses that opinion. Anyways, I didn't realize how far behind everyone is in this forum regarding episodes. I just finished watching upto 84, saw upto 80 a couple of days ago. This drama is pretty good with few interesting subplots. Hopefully, we'll get to see Dan and Baeko, hook up.

He probably would, but what good would that do? He has committed to marrying the brat! I look forward to seeing Jiyeong date someone; I was really hoping it would be Baekho. Don't know what's up with Danpung - why can't he just tell Hyeonu how she feels? Why let him spend money on her and waste his time if she is not interested? I think I am more interested in knowing the fate between Dallyeon and Sonya! Am I seeing Miae pulling Sonya's hair in the future? I hope not!
