I still think Groomie is one of the best looking men, PERIOD, on this planet. I totally agree. He is very good looking and easy to look at. I can never get tired of scenes involving him (even though his plotline is really silly). There was another good looking actor (he was in 7/Chil Princesses and the Bizarre Bunch), but for some reason, I got bored looking at him. He was still good-looking, but I don't wait around for his scenes to come up. class blockquote nchristi wrote:
The Eunju actress has the perfect face and expression for the ultimate rich spoiled brat, doesn't she?! They casted her perfectly. The Groomie must be hiding his feelings very well. He hasn't shown major distress over the divorce. I think he was more upset that he made his own parents upset than his breakup with the woman he loved. I guess living in his wife's household must really have weakened his feeling for his wife, now ex.

Re: K-Drama: 하늘만큼 땅만큼 (As Much As Heaven and Earth/High as the Sky, Wide as the Earth)
nsheldon, I think it's because Bubs is bloodline and LB is not. Even though Bubs isn't Gram's son, he is the son of her husband and brother to her daughter TG. LB, in Gram's view, is a non-person, no blood connection. Of course, Grams is just mean-spirited--like someone said earlier, no milk of human kindness in that breast.
Groomie almost always takes that tack with LB--follow the rules. Can you imagine that kid, constantly reminded that his parents left him. I've read about adopted kids and their need to understand (nchristi can probably articulate this much better than I'm doing) why they were abandoned or given up. I wish he had left home with the blessings of M-ja and Taesik, but his self-confidence has been seriously eroded. In a culture that places an incredible amount of meaning on family, knowing that your "blood family" abandoned you must be a terrific blow to self-esteem.
I've watched many of these and discussed them with my korean friend, so I thought I had a fairly decent sense of some of Korea's cultural mores, but this drama has made me realize I didn't and don't understand the depth of family cohesion in Korean society.
On a lighter note, nchristi, thanks for the photo. Kim Il woo played a really sleazy guy in Super Rookie. That was a fun one to watch, some really good performances there.

Re: K-Drama: 하늘만큼 땅만큼 (As Much As Heaven and Earth/High as the Sky, Wide as the Earth)
Well, I missed last nite's episode so I am anxious to know what happened to a meeting that Eunja DEMANDED from ex-husband (he's an ex, right?). I am quite surprised with how M-Grams described Myeongtae as MONEY-ORIENTED. And that she will find out what she can do about her son Myeongtae.
It just kind of caught me by surprise when Groomie asked M-Grams if his parents are really deserving of the blessing coming from M-Grams. Also, LB has called everyone but Jisu. Additionally, seems like the Prof is beginning to worry about Jisu's decision - that her friendship with Muyeong is a misunderstanding - meaning - probably love. I think she is beginning to miss him - in a different way.

I just found myself grinning all the time during his scenes... just as I get a big smile on my face looking at the photo I posted. He may be a sleazy character, but I'll bet he's one classy guy all the way to the bank.
I watched the movie "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring" tonight. (It was a 2003 Academy Award nominee for Best Foreign Language Film.) I was so shocked to see Seo Jae-kyung (Jiung, Prof's son) playing the main character in the "summer" of his life (age 17). Very good performance. class blockquote viyra wrote:

He told her to grow up and forget it... to stop trying to start up a relationship with him. It's over. They are divorced. He doesn't care what she thinks or feels. The best part was when he had a driver take her home and when Groomie puts her in the back seat he slams the door! That was good. class blockquote ...LB has called everyone but Jisu. That's because she is the most important person to him and she knows him like the back of her hand. If he talks with her it will cause him too much distress, so he's put up the wall until he can return to Seoul, feeling worthy of her friendship, as he said.
You notice that LB keeps listening over and over to Jisu's voice message. That is his contact with her. When he accidentally dropped his cellphone into the river, I suspect his panic is that he has lost Jisu, not that he's missing Eunha.

Re: K-Drama: 하늘만큼 땅만큼 (As Much As Heaven and Earth/High as the Sky, Wide as the Earth)
class p Episode 47 (Friday) - Deleted Scenes
Grams and Bubs drinking soju and singing together in their front room... class ul The rest of the family comes home. Bubs is a happy drunk tonight (for a change). Wants the rest of the family to join in. They humor Bubs and sit. M-Ja scolds her mother for letting Bubs get drunk. Grams whispers and motions to be quiet, let it go. Bubs talks drunk, then M-Ja launches off into him about getting his act together. Then Grams attacks M-Ja. Bubs chuckles at his mother, starts clapping his hands and wants his mother to start singing again. Then he breaks down into tears. M-Ja starts in on him again and Bubs becomes humble and apologizes to M-Ja... which upsets Grams and she starts yelling at M-Ja. M-Ja gets up and goes to her room. In her room, M-Ja hears Grams still running off at the mouth (must be about LB).
M-Ja starts folding laundry... LB's shirts. She holds one close, sits there with heavy heart.
Back at the table, Groomie excuses himself and goes to his room, leaving TG, Grams, Bubs and Taesik. Taesik pours Bubs another shot and tries to be encouraging to Bubs. Bubs laughs and is more upbeat than he's been for several days. He apologizes to Taesik for something. Grams starts singing again; Bubs joins in. TG sighs and goes to her room.
Meanwhile, Groomie is in his room alone and unhappy...
TG calls Prof...
She mentions "mother" so maybe she's telling him to come on Sunday? Their conversation is like an oasis in the desert... after all the mess TG has to sit through when in the other room with the family. class center *****

Thank you very much, nchristi - I now feel content with Groomie's attitude towards his ex. I hope he keeps it up.

nchristi, I agree with you about grams attitude toward LB. I still can't cut either grams or bubs any slack at all - too bad for them that having to be the center of attention means they actually miss out on all the wonderful things happening in the world around them and the really nice people.
I know it is for dramatic purposes but the more I think about it the more I am starting not to like M-Ja because she has allowed this horrible treatment of LB all these years until he has almost no sense of self left. And the same goes for Taesik. They both are portrayed as kind and gentle people who love LB but what kind of love allows him to be tortured over the years. Have they never seen his pain?

Groomie knows what LB is going thru because he told TG girl that morning he was trying to call LB.
