K-Drama: 하늘만큼 땅만큼 (As Much As Heaven and Earth/High as the Sky, Wide as the Earth)

Hi everyone,

haven't been in here for awhile, how's everyone doing?

Here are a few comments on the show...hehe.

1. Prof and TG: I love seeing them together. I agree that he's such a great actor to look at...hehe. I don't know if he's trying to help TG achieving her dream of doing "couple things" or he's trying to figure out his feeling for her, but whatever the reason might be, I want him to be with her. I know they will, but boy do I have to wait long before that to finalize...keke.

2. LB and his ladies: I love LB, I love the actor. I think he matured a lot from Infamouse Chill Princesses (??). I'm still adjusting to him being LB and Yeon b/c ICP is still on. I don't know who I want him to be with yet, but I definitely see a love triangle on the horizon. To me, I think Jisu does like him as more than friend because of the ways she talks to him, calling him when she's down. Psycho girl is sweet, but definitely can be very annoying at the same time. She does remind me a lot of Snow Cone, but luckily, she's not as frantic as Snow Cone.

3. Groomie and his in-laws: Groomie is a very dutiful son-in-law, and sometimes I just want to smack him to wake him up from this craziness. He's toooooo dutiful to Crazy RM. How can he say "I'll look at mother-in-law ordering me around as a way of caring for her daughters and I'll do it with a positive attitude"?????? I don't think of him as spineless, but as a saint. Only a saint person can put up with that crazy RM. I'm really looking forward to Monday episode after Bridey exploded. I'm glad Bridey know that her mom is wrong and will not let it continue on.

As for Crazy RM, I think she's up there with Nara on my scale. She's just as demeaning and hurtful as Nara. The only different btwn her and Nara is that, even though CRM (in my book...hehe) is controlling everyone's life, she doesn't have a strong hold over them. She'll speak her mind, but it all go through one ear and out the other with her husband and children.

Anyway, happy watching everyone. This for sure will be another long run...hehe.

I, too, find Groomie to be good eye candy for the evening. LOL My only thought is with all of his traditional values and attitudes, where did the "shame" or discomfort" with having an adopted brother come from? (which would of course been natural if his parents hadn't adopted or taken in the boy) But if his parents were that strict, traditionally speaking, I wouldn't imagine they would have kept the boy like they did so even his parents yielded to love and compassion over historical bias. Perhaps his attitudes and feelings were affected by his peers and possibly the other family members. Hopefully he will come around to see that his parents and their values and expressions of love are far superior to Bubs and grams.
LB and Jisu are of course my choice for a pair but I am not surprised that LB is "enjoying" (I use that term loosely) the "help" and diversions he is getting from too sugary barbie doll because going back to school is apparently not his forte and it seems to be a struggle for him.
Professor seems to just like the company of women (dah) dancing lessons, etc. so sharing time with TG fits with his personality but now that she and others are talking about marriage, he seems to be forced to look at the issue with different eyes. Right now, I can't seem him in a romantic relationship with TG no matter how "in love" she is with him. But I am also learning that their are different schools of thought with regards to marriage in Korea so it will be interesting to see how the relationships on this drama pan out.

I definitely think we are in for the long run ,but I think this series is trying to examine different family relationships ...

I think it is fascinating that the whole question of familt is also being played out with the mom and uncle as regards to the bio mom and the mom that raised them .

I am not so disgusted with groomie yet ,but I DO NOT understand his attitude towards his brother - especially since his parents totally accept and love MuYoung as their son .They felt they couldn't adopt him because his parents were supposed to come back .

Is it too late to do it now ????

Re: K-Drama: 하늘만큼 땅만큼 (As Much As Heaven and Earth/High as the Sky, Wide as the Earth)

Aprilnyc, KJO was mother to a son (the lead actor's mother) in On the Prairie. It was on a couple of years ago, not a daily drama, one of the later, shorter dramas.

When Eunha said her problem was that she was raised like a Barbie, I thought, so big deal. At the moment, she's much more annoying to me than Snowcone ever was. There was something endearing about Snowcone, although I admit that sometimes you had to look for it! But Eunha seems a bit scary to me, something SC never was. I think that's why I used the term "stalker" in one of my posts, because when she goes off the deep end, she seems unbalanced.

In a way, I hope that Groomie and Bridey work out their problems. They'll probably have a much more meaningful relationship. I've seen this theme before--marriage, no baby--but it was with a younger son, so it didn't cause as much hullabaloo between the couple. What's unpleasant so far about these two is that they just seem to have nothing in common. Ah, well, a lot of episodes ahead, it'll change.

I might have the wrong drama here, but wasn't Kim Ja Ok also in "More Than Words Can Say," an MBC drama from 2000? I can't find any info on it in Google or Koreawiz, but I believe KJO was the mother of a son in this one, too. The son was in love and fathered a child, but his mother would never approve of her son marrying the girl. Once his family found out he had a child—and it was a son, I believe—the girl and baby were taken into the family. Not a pretty relationship.

If this is the drama I'm thinking of, this was, in fact, my very first K-drama discovery while channel surfing one night! It did not have e-subs. But it was so captivating to me that I was glued to it anyway, even though not understanding a single word of dialogue.

One of the things I've always found interesting about Kim Ja Ok is that she doesn't seem to allow stylists to change her hair style in her dramatic roles. The other older actresses look different in all their roles, but not Kim Ja Ok. I often think she keeps her fingers in the pie on wardrobe control, as well, since what she wears is usually the same, basically, in all dramas, too—a short flowered top (jacket/blouse/sweater) and long skirts. class blockquote When Eunha said her problem was that she was raised like a Barbie, I thought, so big deal. I remember absolutely detesting Snowcone in the beginning of Pure in Heart. Still, even though SC was spoiled and determined to get her way, she didn't cross over the line of being mentally unstable and as warped as is Eunha.

Eunha has had some psychological damage but it doesn't seem it could (or should) have resulted in her being as she is unless she already had an underlying predisposition toward mental instability. She did mention that the girls at school cut her hair off once... that's pretty heavy duty action for school girls to take. Reminds me of chickens. A flock of chickens left on their own will seek out and destroy the weak or injured ones among themselves. One will begin pecking, then others will relentlessly follow suit until they destroy the weaker bird. Unfortunately, humans are frequently like this, as well.

RichMom - The thing about humans is that most of us do not see ourselves as we appear to everybody else. People like RichMom (and Nara) do not see themselves as "bad guys," nor do they intend to be. They think they are doing what is right in life. They just "don't get" how they hurt others and that their own sad circumstances are caused by themselves. It takes an outsider or dire circumstance to direct most of us toward a different viewpoint—one of cause and effect (we cause it; we reap the effect).

I feel sorry for RichMom because she isn't really a bad person. She has nothing left in her life of any true value. She is a woman who is becoming increasingly more lonely and isolated from life as she sees her relationship with her children not only falling apart, but both girls turning on her in anger. I'm sure we'll see her change over the months, but we'll all suffer watching her make any progress.

Okay, I'm off to do the deleted scenes from Friday....

Re: K-Drama: 하늘만큼 땅만큼 (As Much As Heaven and Earth/High as the Sky, Wide as the Earth)

class p Episode 22 (Friday) - Deleted Scenes

Bridey tells her mother off at the family table, RichMom goes to her room, Groomie and Bridey in bedroom, Bridey apologizes to her husband about making his life worse instead of better.... class ul RichMom is sitting alone in her room on the edge of the bed. She is hurt. Bridey comes into her mom's room. They both seem to level with the other without it getting too escalated. RM is more crushed than anything else. Eunju acts as though everything is ok, says good-bye and leaves RM's room. class center *****At the Kims, all are eating breakfast... class ul Grams starts in and TG gets on her case. TG asks LB something (maybe about school?). Bubs jumps in and says something critical and dismissive about LB, hurting his feelings, but he remains silent. Dad immediately comes to LB's defense and corrects Bubs... Bubs patronizingly says "yes" and keeps eating his breakfast. TG rubs LB's arm and says something sweet to him then leaves the table. Grams immediately tears into M-Grams about something in the conversation just had and M-Grams responds with "aigoo..." Grams won't let it go and keeps chewing on M-Grams. Finally M-grams says a patronizing "I'm sorry," and continues eating. Dad and Bubs start laughing, Bubs pointing to Grams, who gets a little smile on her face. While Dad and Bubs are laughing, M-Grams, M-Ja and LB are finding nothing funny at all. class center *****Tango Girl and Jisu on the rooftop at work, drinking coffee... class ul TG is heated up about the mess at home with the M-Grams situation. The conversation seems to switch to Jisu. TG comforts her, smoothing her hair and rubbing her arm. class center *****Prof in his office.... class ul Alone at his desk, Prof is looking at pictures of the Taj Mahal on his computer screen. Knock on his door, enter his assistant. The guy asks Prof about the Taj Mahal. Prof smiles big and they banter back and forth a bit. class center *****Jisu at a photo shoot... class ul Receives call from Psycho Girl. She wants to meet with Jisu, who agrees. But as she hangs up, Jisu's smile drops and she looks disturbed. Next scene, LB arrives at class, but no Psycho Girl there. Cut to Eunha meeting Jisu at cafe and pressuring her into pinky swear to never be interested in LB. class center *****

I have ot jump in here and defend Eunha. I honestl do not see her as being unstable. Yes she is relentless, and yes she is determined to make LB a friend, well more then a friend , but this seems more like what a lonely young woman would do. Especially one who's mother seems to be keeping her away from other people. I remember someone saying to RM that she transfered Eunha when it seemed that she was forming an attatchemnt. Eunha has shown that she is tired of being manipulated by mom, she is busting out and she seems to be doing it with a vengeance. What is the difference between her actions and those of Tango Girl who is just as relentless with the proffessor. These are two women who have made up their minds to pursue the men they want rather than sit back and act coy and girlie. If Eunrue is spoiled and willfull you show me a pretty , twenty year old girl on the prowl who isn't. Its tough out there, men are scarce and all is fair in love and war. Tango girl seems t know this too and she is stopping at nothing to get her man. She is as up front as Eunha. I don't have a problem with either of them, but apparently I am in the minority when it come to Eunha. Oh well....

I think that Eunha is just an immature, young girl who has set her sites on an eligible young man. Her style, mannerism etc. I find very annoying and aggressive and perhaps any men out there can offer an opinion on this type of girl..
As for Tango Girl, I also find her over the top...one declaration would have been enough but she just keeps at it instead of just enjoying the times they have together. It is almost as if she feels entitled to him since she has waited so long...but that was her choice, not his...silly girl.
who is supporting Bub's family in the states? he certainly isn't....

There's an old saying that our friends are the people whose weaknesses bother us the least. That's probably the case with some of these characters, especially Eunha. Some have sympathy/empathy for her; others (like me) find her set of weaknesses more undesirable than other sets of weaknesses. It's probably not very productive of me, but here's my feeling on one last comment—then I'll give it a nice, long rest. class blockquote Lumicite wrote:

I think there are huge differences. Tango Girl doesn't throw fits and threaten others around her if she doesn't get her way with Prof. What TG has done is made herself available to Prof for years; just recently has seriously "declared" her feelings for him; and we see her personal anguish over how he chooses to react or not react. Tango Girl's behavior has not spilled over into others' lives and adversely affected them. I really don't see that TG has "stops at nothing to get her man." What has she done? Goes to dinner with him, took tango lessons, been in love with him for 20 years? She really doesn't maneuver his life to snag him

Not so with Eunha. She cannot handle her personal disappointment over LB as an average, stable (family's term is "fragile") human would, without it spilling over into other's lives. Already her manipulations have a) made her threaten to drop out of school if she can't have LB; b) caused her mom to impose on LB to keep Eunha in school until she graduates (not his responsibility, nor fair to dump it on him); c) sucked Groomie into "controlling" his younger brother; and d) forced a promise from Jisu to more or less stay out of LB's life.

TG and Eunha has a huge difference.

Aside from that, Yes, I agree being raised as a Barbie Doll isn't a biggie. At least she knows why she is like that, I just wish now she get past that. She is manipulative IMO. Incredibly so. She is like a bug who falls on someone's body and the person tries to shrug her off but doesn't fall off. With LB she is just like that. I'm just so annoyed with her lavish dinner/lunch whatever the heck is with LB....as if she is bribing him..."hey, come I've got lots of yummy food " Blech.

Thanks about the inof on RM playing mom of sons. Also, I noticed like Nchirsty her hair style seems to be same in all dramas!! LOL.
