Professor Hunk! Great name!

I don't recall ever seeing a father hug his daughter, but Prof Hunk has been very unlike a traditional father in this one since the beginning. I think Jisu would have fought for Rich Man if she'd felt she was deeply in love with him. Obviously Rich Man loves her because she's so unaffected, so unlike the other women in his family.

Darn TG. I wanted to hear what the Prof had to say to her. Well, now we know the relationships in her family, at least. The Old Cow married the father who brought the two older children, their daughter is Tango Girl, and the father has since died. I wonder why Mystery Grams (Mom) left the father all those years ago, or perhaps it was the other way around because, of course, he would get the kids regardless.

As I watch those 2 newly married- I can't help but wonder did they ever talk while they were dating!! ??God, those 2 are something else. I don't like the guy much....and the girl, well, I have a feeling the writer will make her like MiJoo from YH...at the end she will love her husband a lot and yada yada yada.....

The mistery granny is okay, I'm glad she is not playing evil character...

I absolutely don't understand everyones detest of the lead guy MY. I like this actor but I wish he didn't almost similar role as ICP, it's kind of boring to see him like that.

I think, I know why real granny doesn't like MY even though she herself raised someone else's children. I'm not sure if this is spoiler for you but I'll still put it in spoier tag-

class reveal Image class spoiler Maybe because at least My's mom and her brother are her husband's children which means they are blood related to TG, but MY is not blood related to the family in any way????

Finally, in what kind of universe does the daughter of a University professor lack the social status of a CEO? Does money and luxory trump all cards, or do these women just fear that they'll be out-matched by a person who actually does come with a superior level of etiquette and intelligence?
Gosh, even here in the US, the daughter of a university professor wouldn't have the same social status as, say, the daughter of a Fortune 500 CEO, would she? Maybe the daughter of the university chancellor is equivalent, but not a prof's daughter.

The traditional basis for uppercrust marriages in Korea (and many other countries) has long been to advance the economic and social status of The Family as one unit. That's why marriages are arranged by the parents and not left to the children and "love." Each family seeks potential marriage contracts with people who have the most desirable "Conditions," conditions that will elevate—or at least maintain—their own family's prestige and power. (One CEO's family makes an alliance with another CEO's family through marriage to mutually advance their company's future, or to save a corporation in trouble. How many times have we seen this as a plot in a K-drama?)

(An aside... I am well-acquainted with a Chinese (Taiwan) family in my area, who came here when the parents were teenagers. They have two sons, both grown, married with children of their own, maintaining separate households. To this day, these sons still hand over their salaries to their mother, who handles the "Family" finances. All family members live a comfortable life (having all the right educations, cars and houses for show), while Mother has bought up real estate for The Family. They probably own half of SoCal by now! But no matter what, the family is one unit, working for the honor and status of their family, even though they lead somewhat separate lives.)

Probably the most basic difference between American and Korean cultures is Americans highly prize and seek Individualism while the Asian concept is that Family honor and status is most highly valued. We take it for granted that to excel as an individual and to satisfy our own emotional needs is a grand, honorable goal. But in many Asian cultures, individualism is not desirable—it is viewed as a major character flaw to be overcome and corrected.

It took me quite a while when I started watching K-drama to put aside my "American glasses" and begin to understand and appreciate the Korean point of view. I don't agree many times, of course (because I've been raised with American values), but I am glad to be understanding the Korean culture more now. It has actually helped me in real-life daily dealings with ethnic Koreans in the business world... including my mailman!

I used to think he was incredibly rude and cold. Now I understand he was making normal "Korean" conversation and didn't understand that Americans are very put off by some of those ways. I made the adjustment and our relationship has become pleasant. He stopped in his tracks one day when I had a question about Yi Sun Shin. Then when he began delivering little boxes to me from Korea, I saw a tiny gleam in his eye. emoticon

class p Episode 12 (Friday) - Deleted Scenes

Following the Tango Girl/Prof coffee, cut to the restaurant where M-Ja (Myeong-ja) is sitting alone in deep thought... class ul Her husband enters, wants to know what's wrong. Tries to be encouraging. He must be saying not to worry about M-Grams staying there, as M-Ja gets all riled up and runs out of the restaurant.

Meanwhile, M-Grams is in her room, awake and thinking. M-Tae (Bubs) is anxious about his Bio-mom, waiting for her to come out of the room. Suddenly M-Ja (Myeongja, LB's mom) enters and M-grams starts groaning. M-Ja is very serious, trying to rouse her Bio-mom as M-Tae looks on. She gives up and both leave M-grams in bed.

At the living room table, M-Tae gets on his sister's case, wanting her to do something about their bio-mom. M-Ja doesn't know what to do, gets angry and goes into OC-Gram's room. She asks Grams what she's going to do about M-grams. Grams gets angry and yells at M-Ja. Grams calms down and both are in a state of "what are we going to do?" class center *****

Jung Hwa seems too self-centered, spoiled and conceited to have fallen in love with "poor" groomie. He is a handsome young man but definitely not a match for Jung Hwa..they are so different. it will be hard for me to watch scenes which include her...she annoys me already

Hi everyone, thank you so much for the summaries and comments, they are really wonderful. Old Schooler, I agree with you about the Prof I don't think he wants to introduce and woman in his daughters life at this point. I think he wants to see her happy and settled before he makes any changes in his life. Also the fact that his is older than TW and probably doesn't want to start another family.

Does anybody not like the music from the beginning of this drama? It sounds like kid show, but so far I did not see any kid around the whole drama. I like this show as much as PIH, specially the actor and actress, they are really pretty good looking. And the story line is not bad at all

To me the opening song sounds just like the PIH opening song. Just different words. True there aren't any "kids" in this one. But Tango Girl is Gukhwa 20 years later... a very child-like (though old) desperate spinster with a rubber face.

This isn't a criticism, just an observation. So far I actually like this drama more than I did PIH at this stage. Gukhwa was cute for a while, but I tired of her and she actually got on my nerves as the end was approaching. Iceman was the highlight. But Sky/Earth has a more intriguing plot and a variety of interesting characters.

I could do without the bride—maybe even the groom, for that matter. Neither of them interest me, and Eunju irritates me. Neither of them is attractive to my taste. And I definitely am not looking forward to all the bickering and "issues" those two are going to have in their marriage.

What interests me most in this drama are the backstories of the Kim family. What is LB's story? His mother (adopted and bio) and uncle's story? MysteryGrams' story? Why is Grams such an old cow? And why is Bubs such a lost soul of his own?

Then there is the rich family. The father and mother... what's the real story with them?

And last, but not least, there is the Prof. Who cares what his back story is? Just let me get lost in those intense eyes. (I don't think I've ever seen such big, round, nearly black eyes as his. Too beautiful. To see this hunk-alicious in full glory, take a look at Solitude/Loneliness. He's to die for in that drama.)

Re: K-Drama: 하늘만큼 땅만큼 (As Much As Heaven and Earth/High as the Sky, Wide as the Earth)

So, the Prof did come out and say TG (Tango Girl) was precious to him. BUt at this point, he has no intentions of being with her. He cares for her and wants her to find a man to have a family with. Stupid man! I have to agree with nchristi... the Prof is really something to look at! WOW..

I think Groomie is beautiful as well. Extremely good looking guy! Ok, him and his wife.... Yeah, did they every TALK before they married? What the heck is up with that? If you, as a woman, have no intentions of every having children, woudn't you have mentioned that to the man you planned on marrying? I can understand his side of it because 99% of young couples who marry DO plan on having children some day. SO they were both wrong in that they never discussed anything before marriage but she was MORE wrong because she has views that are not the 'norm' and should have made them clear.

This is a very badly matched couple!

I wanted (in my heart) LB (Lost Boy) with Jisu (Jisu)... But I'm wondering if they are going to put her with her rich boy friend and put LB with that little sister of that Rich Mom (RM)?... I see it heading in that direction, but I know it's VERY early yet..

K-Drama: 하늘만큼 땅만큼 (As Much As Heaven and Earth/High as the Sky, Wide as the Earth)

Hi,

I'm new here and am really enjoying this show. I enjoy all the comments about the scenes and love the deleted scene summaries and pictures Nchristi.

I'm having the darnest time trying to remember everyones name. Two of the character names start with M and are similiar, keeps confusing me.

I tend to get bored with the grandmother stories for some reason, I hope theirs is a good one. I don't like the uncle at all. He seems to have a boring life. Hope he gets a good story line. I'd hate to have to see him sitting on the floor throughout this whole show doing nothing.

Kinda reminds me of Jaedo (Minsook's husband BB). He started off with a story line and he seemed to become not so important as the story progressed.
I like the Professor too, and his daughter. And of course LB. Interested in the rich couple (separate rooms) and the rich single daughter too.

This show held my interest from the first episode, I look forward to it coming on each night.

LB must be playing a 20 yr. old, could that be right? Back in High School? I wished they had him working instead and not in school.
He always looks sad. Only one who makes him smile is Professor's daughter. Love them together! They will probably be my favorite couple, if they become a couple.
