K-drama: 진짜 진짜 좋아해 (Really Really Like You)

Here's the summary/translation for EP 30, courtesy of n5y17cgirl for those who missed out on parts of the episode. You will be reading n5y17cgirl's comments as well as her summary/translation.

~ EPISODE 30 summary & translation ~

HW’s hospital scene

JS feels incredibly guilty that HW got hurt b/c of her and won’t leave her bedside.
JW tells his mother-in-law that HW will be fine. She just needs to have plastic (reconstructive) surgery for her 2nd degree(?) burns.

JW: HW, it’s daddy. Do you know who I am?
HW: Daddy…
JW: Yeah it’s me. Why didn’t you wake up sooner? I was so worried... See, look JS. HW’s awake. She’s fine.
HW: Daddy, what about mom? Is mom o.k.? She’s not hurt?
JW: She’s fine, thanks to you.
HW to her mom: See, what did I tell you! I told you to stick close to me at all times. Why didn’t you listen to me? B/c of you, our house could have gone down in flames! I was so scared, I thought we were going to die!
JS: I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. I was wrong.
JW (scolding HW): HW, you shouldn’t talk to your mother like that.
HW: What’s wrong with our mom? None of the other moms are like that. She keeps causing problems and hurting us (emotionally). I don’t want to live with mom. Dad, I want to live with grandma and grandpa. I’m scared. What if there’s another fire?

Back at Bong-Bong’s house

BK: (talking to himself) I hope [HW] doesn’t have to have surgery. If the hillbilly chicken finds out, it’ll only make her waver(?)…

BK sees SK coming out of her room, but pretends not see her at first.
BK: Oh, who’s this? Why it’s the hillbilly chicken’s younger sister. Good morning!
SK: Who’s Jang saem = Teacher Jang (fyi: saem is the Korean abbreviation/slang for sung saeng nim = teacher)
BK: What? What’s it to you..
SK: The hillbilly chicken must have broken up with this Jang saem, huh?
BK: Who’s spreading such lies? Who’d you hear that from?
SK: You did, teacher. repeating what BK said to BS in that scene after BS chewed out her mom "If you decided to forget him, then forget him. If you said you were going to be his younger sister, then start acting like it." Something something like that… We heard everything. Tsk, tsk. You poor thing, gae saem
BK: What, gae saem! Jin Sukyung –
SK: I have my physical (P.E.) examination today. Will you help me [prepare]?

Next scene ~ BK is helping SK do sit-ups… SK tries to kiss BK, and BK pushes her away and tells her stop fooling around.
BS walks out of her room… BK feels the need to explain to BS what they’re doing, while SK takes this opportunity to kiss BK on the cheek.

BK: It’s not what it looks like. We’re practicing for her physical exam today.
SK: Hey, we finished our physicals a long time ago (in a like 'who are you kidding' kind of voice)
BK: (to BS) It’s not that. Really.
BS: Pervert.

BS’s mom walks into the ahjushi’s room (not BK’s dad, but the other guy who lives with them) and while snooping around a bit, finds a last will/testament. She thinks he’s died and starts causing a ruckus. BK’s dad explains to her that all employees of the president have a will, just in case, since they never know what may happen when, in the line of duty.

SK and the younger sister start fighting.
this part was a bit confusing; I’m not sure about all the details, but we do learn a bit more about SK from this scene – that she really isn’t blood-related to BS or the younger sister, and that’s probably why she always calls the mom ahjuma instead of mom.

SJ.: I told you not to touch my stuff! Pick it up and put it back to the way it was.
SK: What are you gonna do about it? What’s with the drawing.
SJ.: You leech.
SK: What, leech?!
SJ: yes, leech. You’re the leech, not our(my) mom. Did you know that? You say you hate her so much, why don’t you just leave? Why are you still around leeching off our(my) mom?
SK: I am going to leave. If your mom would just give me my mom’s money back(?), I’d leave today.
SJ: That again; the money. Why don’t you ever bring up your dad, or your well-off relatives? (not exactly sure what they’re talking about here…) and yet, our(my) mom didn’t hold my hand. Instead, she held your hand and walked out the door with you! Like you said, we’re not even blood-related…

BS’s mom rushes into the room and starts scolding the younger sister.
"How dare you talk to your older sister like that!"
SJ: Why are you just scolding me? We were both fighting together.
mom: why are you fighting first thing in the morning? Hurry up and just go to school… oh yeah, you said you needed money (to pay for some school fee, not sure what), didn’t you. Here, SK, why don’t you pay first today. SJ, you can pay it tomorrow. Now hurry up and go.
SJ: I’m your real daughter!... the fee’s due today. ( and walks out)

BS sees SJ’s drawing ripped up on the floor and runs out to catch SJ before she leaves… BS slips SJ the money she needs for school.

This was a touching scene for me…
BS: You need to cut your fingernails…
SJ: What? Oh yes.
BS: The nail clippers are in my desk, 2nd drawer… hurry up and go to school.
SJ: o.k. I’ll see you later (back at home after school).
BS: o.k. see you later… You draw really well. emoticon

After putting HW down for a nap, the First Lady asks to speak to her son alone before he leaves for work. She shows JW the pictures the photographer took of him & BS at the boxing ring and says "I never thought you’d be the one to cause me embarrassment/problems like this… How do you want me to handle it?" JW proceeds to tell his mom how BS appeared in his life when he was at an all-time low, when he felt like running away. She made him laugh… etc. etc. Even when he knew he shouldn’t, he couldn’t… he became selfish. It wasn’t BS; it was him.
"But I got rid of those feelings. I promise not to cause you such embarrassment again, so please don’t take it out on BS. Don’t say anything more to her…"

Another scene b/t Mina and BS in the kitchen… I skipped watching this part.

JS is so depressed… thinking of what HW said to her earlier and the pain she’s caused her. JS begs her mom – her mom tells her that her dad and older brother miss her, and that she’ll be gone for a week to go visit her dad (who lives in the States, I presume?) - to take her with her when she leaves… so that HW doesn’t have to see her again. emoticon

Back at the Big House, BS brings HW some jook to eat, but you can tell that the First Lady is displeased [with her].

BK & JW…
JW: about the photo… I hope that you don’t misunderstand. You don’t have to worry/stress about the photo.
BK: Why are you saying this to me? You don’t have to.
JW: It’s b/c I know full well where your heart is/lies.
You once said to me, "On a cold day, it wouldn’t be me, but …" (he doesn’t finish what he was going to say, so I’m not sure what he was trying to say here) Please protect her well… since I can no longer do anything now.
BK: Forgive me for my momentary lack of propriety here/for what I’m about to do… starts acting all crazy & goofy in front of JW, putting his arm around him and singing some crazy song, acting like their buddies emoticon

Oh, and you know the divorced couple that work at the big house – the chef ahjuma and the barber. So the barber asks his ex-wife’s sidekick – the other chef ahgashi who likes Robocop – (sorry, don’t know their names) to swing by so that he can ask her for a favor: to return his wife’s wedding ring to her. The chef ahgashi sees Robocop there…

Robocop: Please stop this diet of yours. You’ll ruin your body this way…responding to what he overheard her say in a previous episode What’s wrong with being fat and ugly? So what if you didn’t have a good education or aren’t rich? Those things don’t matter to me… However, the thing I have a problem with is being with someone with an 11-year age gap.

The White House photographer proposes to the dietician.
At first, when he pulls out the ring over dinner, you can tell that she’s appalled by the ring – there’s not diamonds or anything, just a plain silver band.

Photographer: There’s a saying that goes like this: "The first ring, you give to the person you like. The second ring, you give to the person who’ll stay by your side when you are sick. The third ring, you give to the person who will watch over you even after you die." The woman that has all 3 of these rings is the most happiest woman in the world… Would it be o.k. if I put this 1st ring on you?

Of course, she accepts.

BS & SJ *cute scene* :P
JS: Thank you for the money… and also, for [taping my drawing back together].
BS: Don’t mention it..

SK: And they say blood is thicker than water…look at you two getting along so well.

BS: (to SK Are you studying right now?
SK: What’s taking him so long? After all, he was the one that text messaged me to come home early…

SK pretending to blow a kiss…
SK: you saw me marking him as mine, right? Don’t play with him/make him waver.

jealousy, jealousy muhahaha

BK calls BS through the teddy bear phone…BS is all too happy to pick up:
BS: Hey bear, what’s up?
BK: Hey are you still mad? Have you gotten over it? Have you?
BS: Of course. What’s there to forgive b/t 2 friends like us.
BK: I know, right. That’s true… Oh, and what happened this morning (SK kissing him) I really was the victim. What’s up with your sister? Why is she acting like that? She’s scary.
BS: Where are you?
BK: Where do you think I am? Guess: 1) 2) or 3) our neighborhood.
BS: Stop talking nonsense and hurry up and come home.
BK: o.k. I’ll see you at home in 1 min. and 30 sec… Oh, and hillbilly chicken, ko ham chi ehng (Polish for 'I love you')
BS: What? Ko ham, what? All these weird things you’ve been saying to me lately…

JS asks JW to videotape her… her farewell message to HW. JS decides to leave for America to get treatment. She promises to come back once she is all better.

Back at the Big House, HW overhears the president and the first lady talking about her mom leaving for America. She runs home with BK…HW tries to run out with her mom’s passport (so she can’t leave) before anyone sees them.

BK: Where are you going?
HW: We have to hurry up and leave.

JW: HW…
HW: Dad, don’t send mom to America. I was wrong… The fire was all my fault… I won’t call her stupid ever again. I won’t scold her. I’ll hold on to her hand tight…
Don’t leave, mom. I was wrong. I won’t do it again. I won’t yell or get angry; I’ll become a nice/good person. So don’t leave, ok?

emoticon aww….

Final couple of scenes are of HW going into surgery and JS sneaking off to leave for the States with her mom. JW catches her at the airport just in time to let her know that the surgery was a success and that HW will be just fine.

I'll post up cut clips later.

I forgot to mention, that I'm surprised they'd cut the Presidential Residence kitchen scene like that from EP 30, because the Korea-Japan culture exchange mentioned will also be of focus in the last 4 episodes.

Re: K-drama: 진짜 진짜 좋아해 (Really Really Like You)

I wanted to clear up some things before the last few episodes.
I used to love those scenes between Bong-gi's dad and the cafeteria lady.
Image
I remember that Bong-gi's dad was the carpenter/handyman at the Blue House, they never show him working in his little outdoor workshop anymore, did he quit or retire?
And, the cafeteria lady, who retired to help take care of her grandchildren, isn't she the same actress who plays Ms. Park in Pure in Heart?... if not she sure looks a lot like her.

Director Lee has mentioned that he's a "Wild Goose Daddy"... what does he mean?

creidesca — Thanks for the cut scenes!

Yes, she is. Her name is Yoon Yeo Jeong. Further, she and Bong Ki's father (actor Jang Yong) played a couple in "Farewell to Tears" as well (well, I'm not sure whether they're a couple here or not...) -- they were the parents of Seon Yeong, the rich girl who fell in love with poor Jung Woo. And another irony -- in Pure in Heart, she's "married" to actor Han Jin Hee, who played the ruthless businessman in FTT who "stole" the family business from Jung Woo's family, and whose daughter Yeo Jin had had an ill-fated relationship with Jung Woo's uncle/brother Sung Min. The Korean entertainment industry is a very small world, indeed!

My first post. emoticon

A lot has been said about Dr. Chang/Jang's reprehensible behavior, but I see some parallels between him and Jane Eyre's Mr. Rochester. When I see him as Mr. Rochester, I feel a bit more sympathetic towards him. Tortured soul and all that.

And what's up with Ryu Jin's characters never getting the girl? I'm a long way from having seen all his work, but it's never happened in any drama I've seen him in. I'd find the broad shoulders, boyish face, long fingers and legs that go on forever pretty irresistable........
