Crashed my x-trail
Today is a dark day my X-trail friends.While on the way home from work this morning,another driver came through a red light and we collided.
Both cars did a 180 and my airbags went off as well as the seat belt pre tentioner.
Initial estimates for the damage range somewhere between $15-$20k but i'm lucky that things are not worse.
The car took all of the impact from the front and if i was going just slightly quicker i would have had his headlights in my lap.(he was coming at 90 degrees from my right.)
10/10 for the x-trail for safety.Apart for some broken sunnies and some rubber legs the car took all of the damage.The front is well and truley crunched but they say it's fixable.
Not easy seeing your pride and joy on the back of a tow truck with things poking out at funny angles and rubbing on the guards.But at least nobody was injured,still it doesn't make me any happier.
Take care and stay safe,
Russ

Re: Crashed my x-trail
I was always dreading the day to hear that one of our forum members had an accident.
Here it is I guess.
I'm very sorry to hear about your xtrail, but at the same thankful that you and everyone else involved was not harmed in anyway.
Did you take any photos for insurance purposes (no, I'm not asking you to post them as this would be the last thing on your mind right now) but when I had an accident in my Camry I made sure I took photos of everything, just to make sure that the lady who cut me off didn't reverse her claim and say it was my fault. Although this would very hard to reverse in your case, as the other guy run the red light.
What was the other car? Did the impact get to the engine at all?
Just make sure that whoever is fixing it for you uses NEW and GENUINE parts, not some 2nd hand stuff from the wreckers. This seems to be the insurance companies cost reduction directive to the smash repairer they deal with (it happend to my brother in law when he had his car fixed)

Re: Crashed my x-trail
Thanks for the info Jalal,
Being the first accident i have had i'm a little sketchy on the details to follow.I'm not sure if the engine was effected but the bonnet was really squashed up against it so i guess we will have to wait and see.My policy states that if the car is under manufactures warranty then it will be fixed with genuine parts.
The other car was an old magna and it too was undrivable.The driver was actually really good and just rang to see if i wa ok and to appologise.Just one of those things i guess.Now i have to drive the wife's barina,which hurts more than any accident could!

Be very careful with what you read in your policy, it states Genuine, but it doesn't state NEW! This is exactly the argument my brother had with his insurance and they told him that as long as they can guarantee the workmanship, it doesn’t matter if they use new or used "genuine" parts and he ended-up with a white door on his green car, which was spray painted from the outside only!

Now this information is gonna make me cry

Re: Crashed my x-trail
Picked up our new x-trail today
The estimate for repair to the old one was 27k and to my suprise AAMI wanted to fix it!!
I obviously objected and asked why they wont write it off and the reply was this;
Repairs = $26k max
Salvage = $8-9K
Replacement/agreed value = $40k
So there argument was that they were 5k short if they wrote the car off.My previous 6 years with no claims didn't factor even though the premiums i have already paid are greater than the 5k they would have to come up with for us to get a new car.
So we had to make a compromise and they came up with a cheque for $35269 which we took.We were looking at having to hire a car for 6 weeks if the other one was going to be repaired which would have cost us so instead we just made up the difference and got a new ti-l sunroof.
Still,it's a real anti climax when you are out of pocket $3500 for an accident that wasn't your fault.I really expected more from the insurence company and will definatly be asking some questions when the premiums are up for renewal,at least now i know what benefits to look for in a policy.
Now all i have to do is chip away at the accessory side of things

Re: Crashed my x-trail
Hi Russ,
I'm glad it all worked-out OK at the end and I have to agree with Dave, that paying an extra $3,500 for a brand "new" car with added options is a much better feeling than driving a patched-up job. Believe me it will never feel the same and you always remember the accident.
This way you can at least put everything behind and enjoy your sparkling new car.
Was your old exy a Ti by any chance? If yes, make sure you track it down to the wreckers and let us know
Time for the accessories challenge
