Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
Julie,
If you have to take it to the dealer as a result of a missing screw/s, the last thing you'll be worried about is paying Nissan as you would have a MUCH bigger problem on your hands that would mean that car must NOT be driven at all.
$300 charge by Ultratune is very reasonable.

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
I've decided to take my exxy to the Nissan dealer in Darwin to have the butterfly screws inspected and locktited. Sounds simple? --- Not!
I feel ridiculous having to ask this:
Can someone please give me some simple instructions I can quote when I phone their service department, so they can understand what needs to be done. Then maybe they can give me an approximate price and I can finally book it in.
These people are so frustrating, getting a price out of them is really really difficult, and we appear to be having some serious communication problems, even though I'd shown them pictures which I'd also shown to other workshops and my dealer down south. I made a special trip into town two weeks ago, and they said it would be an 8hour job. I rang again today, twice, the service manager is on leave until next Friday, and they have no-one available who can give me an answer!!!! The best I could get out of them today was that it would still take at least 6hours, and that if they hadn't done the procedure before it might take them longer anyhow!
If it's too difficult to give a suitable simple instruction, thanks anyway. I will just have to wait until next Friday to see the service manager, which I may end up having to do in any case. (Time is just slipping away so fast, I am probably returning to Queensland in June, and I want to get out of town as much as I can before I leave.)

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
Julie, because this is a known problem by Nissan Australia, if I were you, I'd be advising Darwin Nissan to contact Nissan Australia Head Office for the specifics of the task. If they're not competent enough to follow Nissan HQ instructions, they shouldn't be employed as mechanics!!!

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
these people are seriously tear your hair out stuff, if I hadn't just started a new job I would be taking two days off and driving to the dealer at Kununurra 850km away from here! Maybe I'll give it some extra thought.....

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
Julie,
It really depends who you are talking to at the dealership about this, if it is just a receptionist, they would have no idea what you're talking about (and sometimes this includes some service managers too). I suggest you ask to speak to the head mechanic and explain what is required. If he doesn't understand what you're talking about, don't go anywhere near that dealership LOL

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
Really depends on how many Xtrails they service Julie as to their understanding of what you try to explain also.

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
Saw the service manager on Friday - he looked under the bonnet and explained what they needed to do, and related it to the pdf photos/instructions I'd printed and brought with me. He still swore it would be a full days job.
8 hours, at best 6.
Even if it was as quick as 5 hours, at $121 per hour:
"Remove inlet manifold and apply locktite to butterfly plate screws: Parts $72.15 Labour $605.00".
I cannot figure out why they think it's going to take so long to do, when every one else says it's only two and a half to three hours work!!!
Aaaaaggghhhhh......!!!!!
(Jalal have you got a smiley for frustration/tearing your hair out?)

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
Hi Julie,
I have to say straight up they are trying to rip you off.
I did the butterfly screws myself at home in my shed with a 3/8 drive air ratchet where I could in roughly 2 hours and I recall having smoko in there as well, and I havn't been on the tools in many years. 6hrs is a grab for cash considering there is no parts involved
