Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
Bit the bullet this morning and did the butterfly screws. Not a difficult job, but was VERY glad I did them. Out of 8 screws, 2 were loose, have the "old school" screws with no spring washers. 2 screws appeared to have white loctite, the other 6 had nothing. Must have been an early knock off at the factory that day! Cleaned the oil off the manifold, and loctited the screws.
2 hours labour for (hopefully) a couple of years pleasant driving. A catch can is on the cards after the amount of oil I saw.
Have taken some pics, hope they work out. If you do this, I found that putting loctite on your screw driver tip greatly assists in keeping the screws stable (with your other hand underneath!) to replace them. Was worried that I would loose one down the intake, but worked out well. Pics are screw with no loctite, oil inside manifold, oil on flange and the screws replaced

Thanks to Shawn for his detailed post and the DIY (sorry couldnt find the members name in all the threads!), both were a great help. As were everyone elses (good and not so good!) experiences with this issue in the past
Cheers

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
hi all i went to my local nissan dealer and showed him the recall.they said the air intake to north america is different to ours.i asked them to check the screws so they rang nissan australia up and the dealer was wrong about the different system and now i have it booked to re tighten the screws if loose and put loctite on them.i asked the advisor to check on the consult to see if any error codes come up and all is fine.i told them its better to be safe than sorry.he totally agreed.it only took me one day to get an answer,so nissan australia must know alot more than we think about these screws.

I am surprised how obliging the dealer was. Usually they tend to shy away from any warranty work... Would you mind mentioning them in this thread

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
hi all just got good news on my screws.all eight are there they just have to replace the gasket as when they tried to take it off it broke.it was stuck.all they have to do now is replace the gasket and loctite the screws as there was no loctite at all in the first place or thread locker.i wonder how many more exys have no loctite or thread lockers out there that are under risk of a screw falling out.

Good stuff mate, now you can sleep better for another 100,000kms or so and then will have to go through the same process again

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
If it was my X-Trail, I'd be asking for them to let me inspect it before re-fitting the cover, or for them to take photographic evidence that the work was done.

That means they didn't remove the screws from their place and will only apply loctite to the top of the screw, so nope, insist that the loctite is applied to the entire screw thread. That is the proper way of doing it.

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
hi all just got my exy back all is good.the loctite has been put on the thread on the screws,i rang up this morning and told them to make sure they do it.they replaced the gasket as well.the car feels even smoother now.the funny thing is the service manager told me there has never been an incident in australia where the screws have fallen out.i do not believe that after what i have read in this forum.
