You need to use Loctite Red Hi-Temp #272
Please call Loctite Australia and they'll tell you where to get it locally to you.

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
As I am buying a used X-Trail is there a way to tell if the butterfly screw fix has been done?
If the vehicle is under warranty isn't it in Nissan's or the dealers best interest to fix the problem free of charge. I'm a bit annoyed about spending $300 on an inherent problem.
Cheers,

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
Hi Mark,
There was no official recall for this potential defect by Nissan Australia, so chances are it wasn't done, unless the previous owner got it done privately through the dealer or an independent mechanic.
While the defect with these screws is a serious one and could cause serious damage to the engine as you would have read in this thread, it may not necessarily happen to every xtrail on the road, as it depends on the driving pattern and how often the xtrail is driven in WOT (Wide Open Throttle) in higher RPM ranges (5000RPM and above) when the secondary butterfly intake opens-up and operates.
We have been trying to convince Nissan to issue a formal recall about this, but to no avail at this stage, so you can argue this point with your dealer if you have the time and energy, but I am sure they will do nothing about it unless formally instructed by Nissan Australia.
As I already suggested in my reply to Anthony above, if you're seriously worried about it, have it done independently without taking chances or waiting until it happens to you because if does happen, you will be faced with a much larger bill OR fight with Nissan to prove your case.

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
Just got mine checked and thank God all the screws are still there. Got them loctited and hopefully they will stay there before I sell my exy.
Any latest development on this matter from Nissan Australia? Any possibility for a nationwide recall? Have been watching the ads to gather the resale value of used exy and it seems that the price is going low - 2003 Ti-L at around 70,000km selling at $23,800. The seller must have found out all these problems and trying to get rid of his...

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
Good stuff. Who checked them for you and how much did it cost?
No news from Nissan at all about this, so unless these screws fly again with the newly released T31 xtrail, there is little chance of a national recall, unless a class action is undertaken.
I doubt the resell price of the xtrail got affected by this at all, as there is only a small number of xtrails (that we know of) that got affected by this particular issue. All older model xtrails got hit with the price due to the release of the new shape xtrail, which is normal and happens to all other cars. And by the way, that 2003 Ti-L price is far being a bargain (at the current market value)

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
I considered myself very lucky to find out about the problem in Australian X-Trail Forum - a big credit to you Jalal
I bought my exy from a second hand dealer in Perth - John Hughes. They really live up to their advertising - honesty and integrity. Before I paid the car in full, I found out about the problem from your forum and decided to call off the deal. They let me make another choice from what they have in their stock but I didn't managed to find anything I liked. The sales manager then asked me about my concerns about the exy and I show him all the printout (including the Nissan Noth America Recall of the Sentra Spec-V QR25DE). I guess he did not want to take the risk (they will loose more money if they had to give me a new engine), so they did it for free. I have requested for a written waranty on top of that too.
The next thing I am going for is the ECB Type 8 Bullbar. I was quoted different prices. Any recommendation where / how I can get a better deal? The best deal I can get now is $1k for silver hammertone for material/transporation/installation in Perth.

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
Very good Robin. Sounds like a very helpful and customer focused dealer.
As for the nudge bar, please copy your question to an existing thread, just do a search on "nudge bar" and you'll find information about the ECB and others.
