Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
Hi Frank,
The recommended Locktite is 272 rather than the 262 you used so you should check the temp rating to see that they are similar.

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
Thanks for the info Kev, these are the heat range for loctite262: 150C and 272: 233C, what temperature would you think these screws reach? by the way I did notice a thick film of oil in the induction manifold.

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
Hi Frank,
BigAl posted his advice from Locktite here which also included the use of a primer to increase the strength og the locktite.
Yes there may be quite a bit of oil in the manifold after 120k as I noticed quite a bit in mine after only 69k as noted here.

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
Hello all,
Does anyone have any more information about - or an update on this problem. It seems to have gone very quiet and I'm guessing that that butterfly valve screw problem hasn't gone away.
Nissan might wish that it has...
Regards,
RJ

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
RJ,
This whole thing has gone quiet as I got ignored for the last 3 times I have sent a status update request to Nissan Australia and I am not happy about that at all.
They think we will just forget about this problem and move on and they're mistaken!
I will re-send my email one last time and see what happens.
P.S. For those that are still concerned about the butterfly screws, please have them fixed at any dealer or mechanic privately. We have discussed this remedial solution before and it has been done by some of us.

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
There was alot of fuss over this issue for awhile some months ago as if you have read, Brett - one of our prominent forum members, had this very issue with his X-Trail, and everyone was keen to get Nissan to come to the party and solve the problem.
I guess there wont be that much commotion again until another forum member experiences the same problem, and everyone jumps up and down in an attempt to be heard (by Nissan, that is).
Here's hoping we don't have to go through that again!

Thanks Jalal,
Silence is golden - from Nissan's perspective.
The advice from the forum about how to fix this is invaluable. Seems to be a pretty easy fix too. But why should the owner have to do it?

RJ, you gonna have to weigh-up your options as it is your car and not Nissan's. Would you rather spend the 300 bucks and have the piece of mind or would you rather leave it to luck and then chase Nissan for hours and days in the hope to get a satisfactory outcome. After going through with Brett's case and the amount of time we both spent on this chasing Nissan trying to convince them, I'd say the hell with the 300 bucks, as we both spent much more than that in wasted time...

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
Too true Jalal. Didn't mean to sound like a clueless whinger.
Bit peeved that companies can manufacture something that the buyer has to fix though.
If it was secondhand or been bashed around a bit that's a different story. I fix all manner of things that break when they shouldn't and I'm getting a bit fed up with it.
It's not the money - it's the principal.

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
I totally agree with you RJ and it is only a matter of time before this whole thing blows up in Nissan's face, especially now that the new model is coming with the SAME engine and most probably the SAME screws!
