Jalal,
Since it seems this member has an independant mechanic do his service work now, is there any chance we can have the mechanic take things apart again and have the member get a photo of the screws both front & back ?
(Maybe the forum might have to help with the cost of the mechanics cost to do this)

Matt, I took mine to Rockdale Nissan for the 50,000 service last weekend and they contacted Nissan H/O during the week prior (as I had mentioned it when I booked it in) and they were instructed not to do any inspection or repair work re: the butterfly screws unless it had shown any indication of the problem (which mine hadn't, and upon changing the spark plugs the next day, there was no damage to them, either).
Just goes to reinforce Nissan's "turn a blind eye" attitude to it, but on what Jalal said yesterday (end of previous page), perhaps they're in fact doing the sneaky on some owners and repairing them without their knowledge? Perhaps Nissan H/O had a project where they randomly inspected a set number of them for free (and without the owner's knowledge, it seems).

I think it's pretty obvious from what he said about the screws being deformed, that Nissan are permanently blunting the edge of the screw so it doesn't come out anymore, even if gets loose.
We have talked about this as one of solutions in this thread. I think it was suggested by duxbac.

Guys,
I am still following this defect through and I doubt that I will be able to forget it.
I have been reading some of the posts made by the Sentra Spec-V guys and ONE xtrailer and they have decided to remove these butterflies and screws all together.
In theory, this will impact the low end torque a little, as the runner will always remain open, but apart from that I have no idea what it would cause to the ECU, fuel enconomy..etc
I would like us to explore this option further if possible and if it proves to be workable with minimal impact and/or loss to torque, then I'd prefer to remove them and drive safely there after.
Please share your thoughts about this and let us know if you think it's a good idea or not and if not, why?

Jalal,
To see what impact it would have, you should be able to rig up a bypass switch on the VIAS solenoid which would allow you to open the butterfly valves anytime you wanted to.
I can help with a pic from the ESM if you would like.

I would be tempted to have the screws spot welded in place rather than remove the plates altogether.

Adam,
I would not weld a small shaft that needs to move freely as there is a chance of warping specialy in this application. There are split bolts we could use that go through like a normal machine screw but open up at the end like split pin so if it does come loose it still cant come out
