Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
Great news Brett.
IF, for some reason you don't get a new engine then ask them to look at the crankshaft bearings as the crushed butterfly plate found in cyl#1 might have transferred some horrendous forces back down through the piston crank arm.
Have you shown him the pictures of the butterfly plate so he knows what forces were involved ?

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
Hi Guys,
I have the following part numbers to share with you.
Old Intake Manifold for QR25DE engine with old type screws Part Number: 14001-8J000
This what 2001-2005 models are now running with.
NEW Intake Manifold for QR25DE engine with NEW type screws Part Number: 14001-8J001
This what the 2006 models and up are now running with.
The new set of screws with LOCKING WASHERS carry the following part number:
Part Number: 14511-8J00B
These are the new screws that were used as part of the U.S. Recall Service.
I wonder if these are the same screws Brett now has in his intake manifold?
I will be calling the dealer on Monday to inquire about these screws and will check their price.

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
OK Guys,
I just called Nissan Rockdale here in Sydney and when I gave them the part number for the new screws, they told me, they don't have them and only have the following part number:
Part number 14511-8J00A
These are the old screws with NO washers!
I wonder what Nissan Australia are using to replace the old screws with new ones, if the new screws WITH locking washers are not available in Australia.
The cost is $3.25 per screw

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
OR you can buy a packet of 10 and washers in Bunnings for the same price? :P
They don't look overly flash or fancy to me. Just good old Nissan inflation on spare parts.

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
Nath,
Getting these screws from Nissan and having a receipt to prove it could help greatly those who decide to do this preventative measure by an outside mechanic. At least you will have proof that you have used genuine nissan screws and washers, even though you could have exactly the same screws now in your garage

Re: **Loose intake butterfly screws**
Guys,
This is getting VERY interesting indeed!
One of the xtrail owners who has a 2002 exy read our thread about the butterfly screws issue and Brett's case and this is what happened to him:
quote:
I had my xtrail serviced last week (week ending 27/4/07), and I asked the mechanic to have a look at it. he pulled it apart and found that the screws on mine had been modified at the back so that they couldn't come undone. I can't remember the term that he used, but they were deformed so that they couldn't come out.
so it seems that either this only affects some, or they have quietly been fixing them at some point. I must look up what the 2 recalls performed on mine were actually for.
It seems something fishy is going on at the dealers, either through direct instructions from Nissan Australia or through a pro-active approach to implement a permanent fix before this problem comes-up!
