Fuel Filler Tube Rust Recall
Hi Guys,
A member from the Yahoo group from Seri Lanka who had this recall carried-out on his xtrail recently, has prompted me to do a bit of search about the details of this recall.
It has slipped somehow and wasn't announced widely, but in any case HERE are the details of it.
The impact on us in Australia seems to be in the range of around 38,000 affected xtrails, as stated in THIS article.
Given the date of this recall (March 2006) I would presume that all affected owners would have been notified by now.
Owners of second hand xtrails are advised to contact their nearest dealer and/or Nissan Australia to ensure their xtrails are not affected (if they haven't notified Nissan Australia about ownership change)
(EDIT) Official Recall Notice HERE

Re: Fuel Filler Tube Rust Recall
Hmmm. 38,000 recalls. How many XTrails in Australia? Has anyone on the forum had a letter?

With an average selling of around 1,062 xtrails per month since 2001/2002, I can assume that the number of xtrails on the road is about 64,000 (approx. figure)
Above estimate was based on THIS source.

Re: Fuel Filler Tube Rust Recall
Thanks for letting us know Jonno.
Proves that this recall is real. I'm suprised it is not yet announced formally on the Nissan web site, but then again it usually takes them ages to update the information on their web site.
Better go and check my letter box too

Re: Fuel Filler Tube Rust Recall
Mine needs this done too, just checked with Nissan Customer Service. I did not get a letter as the address they had for me was wrong, all updated now.
If it helps, the recall ID for this one is R0513.
As it happens my car is booked in for a service next Thursday anyway, so called the dealer and confirmed they will do it at the same time.

Re: Fuel Filler Tube Rust Recall
OK, I couldn't wait for the letter so I called Nissan just now
I'm joining the club of the fuel filler recall. Mine is affected too!
They told that the mail only went out yesterday to all owners, so more of us will be getting the letter soon.

Jonno - does the letter state which serial or engine numbers are affected? There doesn't seem to be any publically available information telling us which ones are affected...
Rich, the customer service manager from Nissan Australia confirmed the number above (38,000 xtrails affected) he didn't give me the VIN Range, but it seems both series I and II are affected.
There is a recorded message now saying to contact your dealer if you haven't received the letter.
So, if you can't wait for the letter to arrive (probably tomorrow) you can call the guys at Rockdale and they'll be able to tell you if your is affected OR Nissan Australia.
