New Forum Search Engine
Dear Members,
I think we have all waited and suffered long enough because of the VERY limited capabilities of the Runboard search engine and I would like to thank you for your patience.
I have now deployed a NEW search engine to the forum which will compliment the existing one and which has MUCH more advanced search capabilities.
It has the capability to search on keywords, phrases anywhere on our forum; this includes the subject and the body of the post.
It will give you search results with an exact location of the search word you have used. You will then have the option to refine your search as well.
This little search engine has indexed our site in full and I have been testing it for the last couple of days.
It is hosted on a separate server which sends web spiders to capture anything new that has been added to the site in terms of content and adds it to the main index to be included in the search.
The location of the new search engine is shown below.
Here is a screen-shot of a test search I have performed:
So far, am pretty impressed with the search results being given and I would really appreciate if you can test it from your side and let me know what you think.
Thanks for your support.
P.S. The location of the search engine window might not be ideal in the long term, but at this stage I just want to make it highly visible to all for testing purposes.

Re: New Forum Search Engine
Great job Jalal, this is a much better search facility.
One minor refinement you could consider (if it's even possible) would be to exclude the runboard User Profiles. A couple of times the results I got inlcuded user profile pages where the list of recent post titles from that user had the search phrase in them. For example searching for "Suspension Lift" returns the user profile page of Titanx04 who posted entries with that phrase as the title.
On the other hand some users might find it useful to see that someone else had posted on that topic!
Anyway this is a fantastic improvement to the site and I'm in full agreement with Adam, you should leave it where it is!

Re: New Forum Search Engine
Thanks for your feedback so far guys.
Point taken about the location. Thanks
To answer your question Eric, yes, I can certainly do that and the search engine admin tools allow me to exclude any particular pages from the search, so I will exclude the profiles if that'll make it easier to search.
In the coming days, am gonna start to customise the search engine to look and feel much integrated and part of our forum in the looks and feel departments. This will make it even more user friendly.
I have also set the automatic site indexation schedule to take place once a week, so any new forum content will be automatically added by the web-spiders.
Given that we almost always use existing threads to add new information, this interval will be sufficient for now and it can be changed to take place more frequently later.

Re: New Forum Search Engine
Hi Guys,
It has been a week since we have disabled the Runboard search engine and only relied on the new one and I was wondering if everybody is comfortable and satisfied with the new search engine.
Appreciate the feedback from as many members as possible who had the chance to use it.
Thanks guys.

Re: New Forum Search Engine - from members page
Jalal,
Fault was not with search engine, but my own ineptitude and impatience.
I have used it today with required results and as I have some spare time, (not rushed) it all makes sense.
At first, I thought that it would be good to have a link to return to the forum if you did not click on a link, but quickly figured out that it opened a new window and was simply a matter of closing this form.
Very handy tool indeed, simple to use and in the perfect position on the page
I know I have been a member for awhile but have not been able to browse very often for one reason or another so this is like 'all new' to me and I am enjoying it immensely.
Great work, keep it up.

Re: New Forum Search Engine
No problems at all Jamie and am glad you find the search engine useful.
I must admit that I am VERY impressed with the way you structure your replies on the forum and use all of the available forum features which always seem to be so nice and neat. Well done mate!
